Merger possibly complete in October?

I was told when I called Cingular that the planned merger was likely to be well on it's way to completion and that they expect the takeover to be done sometime in October. That seems to be very soon...so it's a great sign that we AT&T customers will soon get a much better seletion of phones for GSM.

It looks like several mid to high end models are on their way, possibly being released as soon as late September or in October...just in time for the merger.

Some big questions will be how services now with AT&T will evolve into Cingular. Things like mmode (internet access), calling plans, new phones, and customer service just to name a few immediate effects.

If anyone has more news about the merger, please post.

You want the latetst news you got it!!!

If anyone wants, needs or plans on getting a new phone or plan do it by end of October. The plan as it stands right now is as follows: Discounts are being eliminated for ATT handsets unless you are a high valus rated customer.

Thats why right now they are giving discounts to pretty much almost anyone who wants a deal. They are doing it now as they(AWS) promised to have as many customers as possible locked up under contract at the time that Cingular takes over.

The reason for that is they are gonna pick and who to keep and who to release from their contratcs-An expample would the 99.99 Unlimited Charter plan-Anybody think they'll keep them-no they'll either get forced or released outright-Re...

People being released from their contracts is NOT TRUE. All of AT&Ts contracts include transfer clauses in the event of a merge. Since the contracts include this, nobody will be released from their contracts when the merge is complete. However, those customers that would like to be released have the option to do so, but other than that no customer will be released unwillingly. Hope this clears some things up. 🙂

Actually ATT-Cingular foes have the right to release you from the contract, see they simply say well the plan was offered by the now defunct AWS, and they will place you on the most comparable plan but not the Charter plan themselves.Legally they are allowed to do it.

There was when the charters were launched stated that" you got to keep the benefits of the plan for your length of comitment of service contract. When the 1 years first expired around the time of the offer first being made from Vodaphone-those promos came off, then were re-added but with no extentions.

The 2 years expires for the last in september 2004.Promos will possibly stay but at care we were advised that when promos come off now, we credit the overage, no matter the ...

I assume this is on ATTWS end because I am pretty sure you're not trying to say that @ Cingular we'll credit all their overage. I have not recieved that memo but I did recieve the memo that protocol will be adjusted for ATTWS customer's to help educate them on how things work on our end. Nowhere does it say we'll credit overage. And I did hear that we will honor their contract.

No you're right. We(ATT) were told from Head Office that we credit back the overage and educate the customer as to why it came off and with the understanding that it will not be credited up till the date advised of it,but if it happens that it comes off and customers waits 2 or 3 months before calling in we(ATT) only credit the most recent invoice.

We are also giving the customer an option to renew with new current plan and promos, but if the customer declined they only get the included in plan minutes only and can get anything added like additional minutes or nights and weekends without renewal.

So, ATTWS is ending the Charter plans with contract end, just like they said they would when they sold them.

Cingular has a tradition of keeping old plans going for the customers who stay on them, even if they have not been offered in years. They would only have to leave their plan if, for instance, their analog or TDMA phone dies and gets replaced with a GSM. (Even then, I suppose, they could keep their plan, but their new phone wouldn't work, kind of missing the point of it all.)

I suspect (with no official knowledge) that all ATTWS customers will be allowed to finish their current contracts, and then keep their plan on a month-to-month basis after that, for as long as we support the technology. I also suspect we will bombard them ...

ATT used to have thesaepolicy, but they want people off those charter plans they made so good to get people to sign up and or migrate to gsm when there was little signups at that time, but now with the recent boost in gsm coverage and migration rates up that they want to get rid of the charters

The official inside news is that once the contract is up the promos getting removed as of the end of the bill cycle.Thats why the plans were national network only,so with the recent coverage updates for roam upgrades that means customers get more off network fees.

No the promotions are gonna come off start coming off soon ,we were told to credit and eduacate as to why and migrate them or be aware that those promotions are gone.

any company can release someone fromt heir contract. but not in the terms you described. all contracts are transferable to a new company. Cingular in this case. but contracts are one sided. the company can choose to alter the contract but it voids the contract you are in. The charer plans promos were being added indefiantely LONG LONG LONG before offers from vodaphone. this happened back in like sep/oct of last year. no promos are being removed or dropped off. funny how I had someone today expired 2yr agreement still have their promos. and someon the other day a year ouyt of contract still ahve the promos. stop lying to people

Whoever told you this was puffing air... Yes, Cingular does in fact "hope" the merger will be approved by the FCC by 4th Quarter this year... There is always the possibility that the FCC will say no... Do not forget this... All of Cingular hopes that does not happen... The company plan is a a starting integration in the 1st quarter of 2005... Keep in mind that 4th quarter of 2004 & 1st quarter of 2005 is a 6 month period... Yes, we hope it will be sooner than later but we expect a full integration no later than April of 2005... If the FCC approves... of course...

End of oct is when we will know if the FCC approves the merger. FCC's decsion date is Oct 31, 2004 so the merger can't even start untill then. AWS and Cingular are well into talks on how the merger is going to take place but they can't start anything untill after that. I've seen small mergers when AWS takes over a company that takes about a year. I can imagin this will take a while.
