ATT cracks me up!

kingfrog77

Jul 26, 2004, 6:18 PM
i was an ATT customer 8 years recently month 2 month on a TDMA phone. I had no issue with them and loved their customer service. When i tried to switch to GSM earlier this year, I was told by the CDR I would loose my 200 Promo minutes and have to pay $150 for the T637.

I then went "shopping." VErizon reps turned me off. So I go to Cingular who offers the same phone for $79 and 450 roll over minutes for $39. Data at .01/kb. Since ATT was more expensive and offered no incentive of course i ported over to cingular and since ATT will be Cingular soon. It was a no brainer. Now I get mail and phone calls with 'deals' asking me to switch back to ATT. I have to laugh.

Are they serious? Do they really want the business? it does not seem so. S...

Ok brain Surgeons. Why is ATT NOW offering me the farm? When I called them as STILL a customer they could only take away my 200 promo minutes because I was switching to GSM and 450 min for 39 and $.04 a kb for data and another $60 for the SAME phone? they did offer to sign me up TDMA at the same everything though...how generous!

Where is the rationalzation? I now get phone calls and flyers saying come back I have 15 dys and all that!

Dumb way of doing buiness to a long term customer. Its no wonder they have to least adds and the most port outs. no wonder at all! I hope most of the ATT CSRs are hired by Cingular though> They were a great group over the years. It's not their fault management has their heads up their azzez although it's ...

ok....you've "got the life" right? Homes and condos all over the place, indicating plenty of $$. Supposedly (assuming we can trust anyone on the net these days). What the hell are you doin worried about 200 minutes that you didnt' pay for to begin with?

It's policy for every company to make you eligible or ineligible for certain things when you switch plans. It's been ATT's policy, even with landline, for years to try and get their customers back after they've left.

Don't be such a damn primadonna and think that they're specifically targeting YOU cause you were their best long term customer. They're just mailin out offers to try to increase business, the same reason Cingular and Verizon use commercials. They're just a little more...

Homes and condos all over the place? I have a home in Las Vegas and the venues I work in put me up in rented condos. Although I work a few months out of the year, Im not wealthy, never claimed such. I want a good deal as much as the next guy.

You really don't have a clue, son. They are not targeting me exclusively. I asked a question of the ATT CSRs about policy thats all. I would think normal business rules apply. Its less expensive to keep a customer than gain a new one or especially a lost one. If you cannot compete you cannot survive. Verizon for the first time in it'd history has to now compete, I am guessing ATT has thrown in the towel. Seems that way.

Your name really fits you well. Did you think of it all by yourself? Or did ...

Usually, retention offers are in place. The problem with customers who've been around for a while is that they think they're entitled to something. More minutes, a free phone, etc. Even more of them freak out if you offer them something and they HAVE TO TAKE A CONTRACT.

I of course wasn't privy to your conversation, but I highly doubt that if you were transfered to a retention group, that they offered you nothing. What I suspect happened is that you wouldn't take a new contract. That's what usually happens. It's no wonder to me that more marriages end in divorce. Most people can't commit to a two year wireless contract.

I called 611 Twice on two different occasions. T do not partake in the free phone deals. I was and did pay for the phone I wanted, albeit ultimately through Cingular.

They told me i would lose the 200 promo minutes and be on a $39 450 a month plan and the phone (T637) would cost me $150. I have no issue with contracts. I understand they need to predict cash flow. I had many renewals with ATT over the years and if TDMA worked at my home, I would still be with them on a Month to month basis until the deal was completed or not.

It was only then I decided to shop around and see what the other Carriers were all about.I landed with Cingular becasue they offered the same deal as ATT but with roll over and a savings of $70 on the phone. I may...

I dunno why everyone got a stick up their ass about frog posting his experience here.
I always say go for the best deal.
**** and i know at&t doesn't always have the better deals.
sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't.
and they WOULD retain more customers if they did offer retention offers BEFORE the customers canceled, and not after.
which is what they're trying to do now with those PCR's and such.

frog brought up a good point.
no need to spaz at him for it.

Listen asshole there's two people in this world that earned the right to call me son, my parents. THEY'RE DEAD! yes, that's a sensitive button so I'll thank you not to hit it.

Personal insults are not needed.

ATT's retention program, even with landline service has always tried to regain customers. I'm not sayin it's smart, or lucrative, they did after all get bought out. I'm glad that you've found a company that you're happy with, but for god's sake stop trashin on every other corp. that is out there offering service. It's not only horribly disrespectful, but VERY low class.

If this is the kind of person we have in the entertainment industry, there's no wonder there's so little entertainment to be had lateley.

look at some of his other threads...he's just hatin on other companies for no good reason. He's being overly carrier loyal on very little more than opinion. Even has gone so far as to all but wish the demise of Verizon, just because they're Cingular's biggest competitor.

And being called son get to me like no one's business, it's disrespectful to my parents from my standpoint.

just as I'm sure frog hates being call asshole for posting his opinions.

why do you take it so personally if he bashes at&t or verizon and says cingular is better?
everyone has opinions.
my personal opinion is that all carriers blow chunks.
no matter who you're with there's always chances for something to egt screweed up on your account or plan and always a chance that you're not going to get the reception you need.

another opinion of mine is that there's no reason to call people names and swear on the net.
it's as pointless and needless as the international dailing features on cell phones.

I have been bashed because I mentioned the downfall of Verizon would be a nice thing (even in only fantasy).

I have no heart to even allow a thought like that escape from this obviously demented mind. Oh my God and all that.

Well I think the "Council" as It were should ensure the ATT Employees being displaced and their families are comfortable and will be taken care of. Since they ripped me for even thinking of such a thing....

As an esteemed Council member I believe I can safely say, in response to kingfrog77's original post, that the reaction you recieve is due to the left hand not knowing what the right doeth.

This is a common problem with almost every company and is the cause for the low customer service ratings in the entire cellular service industry.

Lets say you call to cancel your account and you get Bob in Retention. Now, Bob can only offer you a Pink bunny if you stay.

Meanwhile, Joe in Continuity Marketing is calling customers who have cancelled offering them 2 Pink bunnies if they come back.

Bob has no idea about Joe's offer and Joe has no idea that Bob can only offer one.

This failure of communication has now caused you to go to anot...

Whether your mother's dead or not I don't know, but I'd appreciate it greatly if you'd respect the memory of mine.

Your question struck me just like your other posts do, as a put down to a company that for some reason you find inferior. I will not appologize for my interpretation of your ignorance.

Just for the record the name came from that of my favorite band: Disturbed. Not an indicator of my mental status.

Want me to get a clue? Fine, but first you get some respect.

Yeah My mother is dead at 59. However, I don't carry the memory around like a heavy weight over my head that falls on me when someone says something or does something that reminds me of her. Ita a good memory a loving memory no one can tarnish by disrespect with any word or action. She instilled that tolerance and toughness in me. Nothing is sacred in this world, only the next. She raised me that way, and thank God for in this world the truly sensitive suffer way too much.

So while my mother enjoys her "dirtnap" , I thank her for her toughness and warped sense of humor.

And you need to lighten up, boy (is that ok? or is an uncle's memory involved somewhere). You have along life ahead of you. You don't want an ulcer do ya?

my mother died at 19, when I was a baby, I have no memories of her or my father to carry with me, so I'll thank you kindly to respect that. Not having that memory is the only thing that bothers me about it, and even the wonderful woman who raised me didn't call me "son" for that reason. Call me crazy but I think it's the least that can be done to honor them.

I'm very happy that you've got a carrier your happy with, in fact with any luck I'll be selling Cingular at the end of the week so I've got absolutely no reason to bash them. But I seriously don't think it's cool to completely trash other companies because you're not happy with thier policies or technologies. That's MY opinion, you don't have to agree, but ya do have to accept it ...

I'm going to share something positive, and this always gets me.

There are some people out there that are so positive and gungho, and it shapes the mode for the rest of your day, so that your positivity bubbles over and you leave a little bit of it with eatch of the customers.

I believe that this happens with any company, whether it be wireless or not wireless or internet or whatever.

I know that within my center and maybe many others there are a lot of negativity going on, but I think we should all try to focus on the positive, because it will make going to work a bit easier, and it will make offering PCOs or PCRs a bit easier.

I'm sorry that there were insults thrown in here.
