My phones keep becoming obsolete!

I live in Tallahassee, Florida. In December 2003, I upgraded my U.S. Cellular plan to include a phone for my daughter.
My old phone, I was told, wasn't compatible with the new plan, so I dutifully purchased new phones. Two months later, U.S. Cellular sold their Tallahassee interests to AT&T. Suddenly my excellent $50 plan with 1200 shared minutes and unlimited nights/mobile to mobile was costing me over $100 because AT&T couldn't put me into a compatible plan allegedly because of my non-digital phones. I couldn't change to new AT&T phones and keep my old phone number (which I've had for years) until June 2004! Finally, on July 3rd 2004, I broke down and paid $300 for new phones and purportedly got into a cheaper plan for me and my da...

Well it's kinda true, but not entirely. ATT's old system is obsolete. However, that should not be what is wrong with your phone. Do you turn it off regularily? Not powercycling your phone could cause it to have a reduceed service capability.

your att phone is not obsolete, when cingular purcahsed att they slowly did away with providing digital equiptment only in rare circunstances can it be done, becasue cinguar doesnt want customers to be going into contract under there digital account as they want customer on gsm they are only wanting there 2 be 1 total network, so the phone may be losing power becasue of lost roaming agreement with affiliates any whole bunch of other issues... honestly if u wantbest options go to gsm... its where it is now only getting better... and yah... trust me

Screw it, port your number over to a good ol' Verizon phone, you'll be happier with the coverage and the customer service. 🙂

Stop wasting your time calling numbers which are answered by cubicle dwellers who might or might not know what they are talking about. Even the best of them would need to actually look at your phone to accurately assess the problem. Go to a Cingular corporate store. Find a KNOWLEDGEABLE rep...a gear head is preferred; and let them take a look at your equipment.

I have people all the time coming into my store with phones they have gotten off ebay, bought overseas, or found at a garage sale. 90% can be made to work perfectly well; but you have to know your way around the setup to make it happen.
