I'm from Canada and am not sure of what exactly goes on down there. But why does it seem that almost every cust I speak to has their own attorney?

They're not requesting one. They just say I've talked to my attorney, or I'm going to talk to my attorney. Does everyone down there have their own pet attorney. I'm not trying to make fun anyone, just curious is all.

If they don't have one, they threaten using a lawyer because lawsuits happen all the time and they believe it will scare us.

Lol why not...if you can sue mcdonalds because the cup didn't tell you the coffee was hot you can sue anyone for anything.

That is funny you say that because in high school we debated that excat subject, Mcdonalds being sued for the hot coffee burning some lady, and the lady won.

In school we had to argue as if we were laywers for a side, I was placed on the lady who was burned side, and I won my 'case' because the coffee gave the woman third degree burns.. THIRD DEGREE BURNS!!!!!! when you get coffee from any place do you expect it to burn you that much, I mean that is like TO THE BONE!!! (that is how I won my case, I yell a lot ;)

Anyhow that is how we saw it 🙂 I do still think that there are too many crazy lawsuits though (some kids sued Mcdonalds because they got fat on thier food).

The rest of the story..... that manager had received numerous complaints from employees about the machine BOILING the coffee...that is what caused McDonald's to lose...get the whole story

It's not like that in Canada because Canadians can take responsiblity for their lives. Oh I used my fon damn I gotta pay that bill. Oh I ate McDonald's everyday for the last year and Damn it made me fat.

There are some REALLY nice American's, I know there are but there are some REALLY dumb ones too. I know there are some dumb people in Every Country, but my Gawd sometimes you gotta wonder How the USA ever become a super power! Oh wait I know, The brain drain. They paid Canadians more if they worked down there so They have all our brains! too bad we can't afford to pay them as much money then Canada would be a super power hahahahaha But then we might turn stupid and sue everyone all the time too

hahahaha
I hope no one takes offe...

As the famous saying goes quoted from most movies... "This is America... we can sue for anything!!!"

It's sad... really... the values that they portray. I sure as hell would not want my kid to have that mentality... if I ever have kids 😁

Turn on any American television station and every other commercial is an add for some lawyer.. injury help lines, claims, settlement lawyers, etc. I am Canadian myself, it seems Americans like to tie up their legal system with pety lawsuits.

Attorneys are plentiful. A good, ethical attorney is a rarity.

Frivilous lawsuits run rampant. People feel slighted, they sue. People are negligent, they sue. People injure themselves, they sue.

They should label these lawsuits as 'frivolous'. Lawyers who lose one of these cases should be disbarred. That would keep these under control.

In defense of Americans ...I am Canadian but we have people here in Nova Scotia blaming the government for their addiction to VLTs (gambling machines)...this woman gets on TV...tells everyone she is a victim of the government because she lost her home...all her money etc...ummmm...let me see honey...YOUR FAMILY is a VICTIM of YOU!!...some people have NO shame...so Canadians can be idiots as well

It's true, we do get the odd frivolous lawsuit up here, but they get thrown out of court pretty soon.

Cust: I'm going to sue Cingular for the etf (early termenation free , only for those who don't know what an etf is) I was charged for 3 phones (150.00 x 3 = 450)

Me: That's fine...would you like your lawyer to contact our Legal Dept?

Cust: Sure.

Me: I must also inform you that if you not only lose your case on top of paying the etf and your lawyer but will be responsible for paying the Legal Dept for taking them to court.

Cust: How much we talking about?

Me: Well, I believe that they charge between 300 to 450 dollars per hour spent on the case...lets see maybe 3 hours of work assuming they are paid 400.00 an hour would equal 1200.00 per lawyer = 3 x 1200 = 3600.00....sir I think it would be in your best interest to pay the 450...
