Quick question for AT&T employees:

Are you having any problems with the images on this site not loading today? I made some server changes to help speed things up. For the most part, it's helping, but I've received reports from a couple of AT&T employees saying that images have stopped loading for them.

If images are just slow to load, that's a different issue (but I'm working on that, too).

Thanks!

Yep, I'm at work and between calls; slow day today, for some reason. Anyway, most of the images on this site are not loading. Are you using off-site hosting for your images? Given that we have limited internet access at work, that could be why.

Seemed like your post wanted confirmation, so here it is. Anyone else?

Let me clarify they do not load at all, not slow, just not at all...

Okay, thank you!

What this means, though, is that I need your help! 😉

Here's the deal:

Due to ever-increasing traffic (😁), I've finally reached the point where one server (no matter how fast) simply can't handle all the load. 😳 The easiest way to add a 2nd server and split the load is to move all the images to a new machine, which is what I did on Wednesday. So now there is www.phonescoop.com and img.phonescoop.com.

For the most part, it's working great. Ignoring the image problem, pages now load dramatically faster during peak hours.

But the problem is... it seems that the AT&T Wireless corporate network firewall limits the sites you guys can see, to just certain sites that are on a "white list" of approved sites. ww...

Will do, actually; while I'm outsource, I know how to get to AWS' IT department. Ah, the fun of having a manager as a friend...

Oh, to qualify: I seriously doubt IT will give a wildcard to an individually owned site. Like you said, our internet is pre-approved -- someone needs to take a look at all those phone images you have there to make sure they're not "inappropriate for work" or something.

Hey Rich, thanks for the info... good to know why they arn't loading properly. Its actually fine, we can navagate the site still, just gotta hover over the images not showing up properly is all. 🙂

I don't know about everyone here, but I, and most I see posting here, are just phone jockeys really... we're allowed access to the site because it provides up-to-date and informative... err, information on phones, services, and technologies in the wireless industry. As well, it keeps alot of us entertained during the waits between calls. I really wish most phone jockeys had the ability to make changes, but most are outsourced, and AWS IT isn't easy for us to reach.

The only complaint is the inability to see smileys anymore, from me! LOL

As a matter of fact, if the AWS IT Dept saw some of what AWS employees are saying here, they might re-block the site! LOL.

Ooookay, finally got an email back from IT, they said they can't give you a *.phonescoop.com allowance, but they'll look at it. No idea if they'll give me a confirmation.

Geez, had to use the forum search to dredge up this post.
