It is ridiculously dead here, I'm not sure about where everybody else is, but lets start talking about something interesting.......

Take you pick. I've got rap music, old people, drinking stories, outrunning police stories, the war in Iraq, Canadian health care system, the difference between metric and whatever system Americans have, Coke, or Pepsi?, favorite foods, Sesame street songs you can remember and ridiculous fashion trends.............

So, somebody respond already.

Oh, i guess you could also talk about phones, or your job and how much it sucks!

me too!! I had the gay-marriage discussion with a devoutly religious co-worker, and he said a marriage is only for a man and a woman because marriage is and always has been an institution of the church So I've decided, my common-law husband and I aren't going to get married, because I want no part of the church, or any institution that discriminates against people arbitrarily. The church can take its institution of marriage and shove it.

So when/why do the rights of someone who's gay trump the rights of a religion?

It's an impossible situation because the whole trouble is that the church and the state are not seperate and they're trying to make seperate rules.

In an ideal situation we'd all have rights under the goverment as a union for 2 people regardless of the sexes. Marriage would come in only if you chose to and any church would have the right to refuse to marry someone just like you have the right to chose your church.

Well it has nothing to do with the rights of any religion. Religions can excersize their rights to deny recognition of homosexuals for as long as they want, that's their choice and their prerogative. The problem is, marriage is a legally recognized institution for non-religious people as well as church-going. If I, as a rather devout athiest having nothing whatsoever to do with any church, am allowed to get married, why can't a homosexual couple get married as well?

I'm not sure how it is in the US but here in Canada the government is forcing churches to follow the law regardless of the beliefs.

I'm not quite too sure if thats true. I dont think the Canadian government is forcing any of the churches to change their practices.

I think the main problem is that most people still don't accept homosexuality, just like people don't accept polygamy or marrying your sister. If they allow gay marriage, whats going to be next???

Personally, I think its important that there is gay marriage, being gay myself. But maybe don't call it marriage. Call it a union or partnership or whatever, just as long as its recognized and legal.

I can't recall where it was exactly but I'm thinking it was in Manitoba. I'm certain it's happening though because there were a couple people who ran into legal troubles when refusing to perform the ceremony.

The Courts are not trying to "force" churches to perform gay marriages, just trying to facilitate the ordained ministers who offer to marry the couples with the ability to do so. 🙄 One of the things that gets me most is the fact that they say marriage is only there to serve the purpose of procreation. Does that mean that a young straight couple, one of whom is sterile, should not be allowed to wed?

Ok, first off befor i begin i acknowledge that I AM A HIPOCRIT (not sure of spelling)! I am a Roman Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus (catholic mens organization). When is comes to the Gay Marriage issue, i could give a crap less what the churches position on the issue is! I personally believe that if it makes them happy, GO FOR IT! GET MARRIED! life is to damn short to be freaking out over the little things! The religious people say that the Bible forbids same sex marriage, NEWS FLASH! no where in the book does it mention ANYTHING about a same sex union!

The US is all bent out of shape because of the whole devision of Church and State, the US constitution states that congress nor and governing institution will make an...

Frei use the spell checker down below, helps me out for the big words and unknowns. Just a suggestion, in no way do I mean to insult the integrity of your personal knowledge on words. 🙂

WOW I just used the spell checker thinking that integrity and knowledge were spelled wrong, I got them right WOOHOO!!!

I know this isn't phone related, but I just gave up.

yeah, that shouldn't be allowed. i'm all for gay marriage, but churches who dont beleive in it shouldn't be forced to conduct ceremonies. Thats just another form of relgious persecution. I live in Alberta, so gay marriage still isn't allowed here. Compliments of red neck Ralph Klien. But I feel that it should definately be allowed, only not forced upon religious institutions.

Ralph Krook finally succumbed to the pressures of human rights supporters and is giving up his fight against same-sex marriage, and in his defense, he is finally realizing there are bigger issues to tackle, like education and healthcare (and possibly a little more funding for his AA meetings)

I'm Roman Catholic and I got married in an Anglican church last August (not my first choice but i was my husbands wish to be married in the same church as his birth father, who died of cancer when he was 2, to his mother) . And now i find out that the pastor that married us has quit because she's "afraid" that she'll be forced to marry "those people". And i say "don't let the door hit you on the way out". I feel kind of ashamed to have been married by this person but i guess there was no way to find out the thoughts of the pastor in regards to this issue b4 the wedding. My husbands mother is of the same mind set and says that the pastor is taking a stand against the issue. If the conversation had gone much past that i think i may have had...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Man do I ever LOVE ignorant people.
I have found it's only the stupid people who have a real problem with gays. They never have good arguments. They are sick perverts so they shouldn't be able to get married. Riiight. Try and bring that up in a debate and watch how badly you get shot down.
We hear of married men every day who get their kicks touching little kids... but that's not sick or perverted.. right? Or should they not be allowed to marry either?

But if they don't get married, how else are they going to get a grip of kids to molest? 😳

Bottom line is that as long as the government says you have to have a state issued license in order to be legally married, ...

I presume "***" doesn't represent "gay". People like you make me sick, I can't even joke about you, because as much as I disagree with your statement, I know there are hundreds of thousands of other people like you. Quite frankly you make me sick, but it s adversity to change that ironically fuels change. Assholes like you who show that all those self righteous assholes are just crazy like you, and that you have no arguments to back yourself up with. And what do we do with crazy peoples opinions? we tend to disagree with them because we don't want to appear crazy, thus, you have done the gay rights movement a favour by spouting off you're extremely biased viewpoint and all those people on the fence are just watching you and thinking "I have ...
