The coverage area for the mLife National plans is defined solely by the map specifically a mLife National customer recieves no roaming or LD charges from within their HCA (which on the maps is all of the "orange" or "gold" colored area). Previous mentions of "on-net" descriptions have been misleading when taken literally. The alpha tags are not a consistent measure of billing area. While the customer experience is usually consistent when the alpha tag reads "AT&T" or "Roam", there are exceptions. Also, as has always been the case with the "Extended Area", this alpha tag is a very inconsistent proxy for billing areas from market to market on the National Network plans. This is on the AT&T Wireless website underneath the calling plan map legend. Therefore, based on this, if you are off network in the "gold" area, you can still be charged roaming.

"This map is a general representation of wireless coverage and the areas shown are approximate. Actual coverage depends on system availability and capacity, system repairs and modifications, customer equipment, terrain, signal strength, weather and other conditions. This map is not representative of where service can be purchased. Long-distance charges may apply. Roaming rate may apply whenever a non-AT&T Wireless network is used to place or receive the call regardless of location."

well..with all ATTWS national plans (as they have ALWAYS been)..the only real way to determine whether or not you will be roaming is by the alpha tag displayed on your phone..unfortunately, even in large metropolitan areas, you still may receive a competitors tag, in which case you should turn off your phone, and turn back on..your phone should try and look for an ATT tower, before any other..if there is still issues, you should try and change your phone to read ATT towers only..I may be new on the site, but i do know what i am talking about.

OBVIOYSLY you didn't read what the guy just said! Alpha tags are NOT the best way, or even any way to how AT&T Wireless (or any provider for that matter) bills you!
