at&t vs. tmobile & porting

I live in the Salt Lake City Metro area. I recently switched from a tdma at&t phone to a gsm at&t phone. I love AT&T for their "cool" phones and their data network but I don't get a good enough signal where I live, on the new gsm phone, for it to be worth keeping. I am thinking of porting to T-mobile. Does anyone know how t-mobile data (speeds, content, structure) compares to AT&T Wireless? There 19.99 unlimited Internet plan looks great. I sure like their 3000 Whenever minute voice plan. Does anyone know when AT&T gsm will have the signal strength that t-mobile gsm currently has?

Porting. I know that if your are still under contract with a carrier that you are required to pay an early termination fee to the carrier you are leavi...

If you port your number out to another company within the first 30 days of starting your service with AT&T wireless, (YOU'VE HAD YOUR WIRELESS NUMBER FOR LESS THAN 30 DAYS) than there would be NO early termination fee when you port-out to another company.

casper69 & other at&t wireless forum users please respond. Even though the contract has over 2 years left I can still do this?? I just want to verify for sure. I don't want a fee of $175 plus. Here is a little more info...I think AT&T is giving me the runaround. I am wondering if I have found a loophole or not and if I have if they are trying to stall the change so I don't port w/o paying a early termination fee? I did the x-fer of responsiblity change last week and it still is not processed. I actually have done this financial responsiblity change thing a few times on prior lines of service and it only usually took an hour or so. If I can get the financial change done and port within the 30 days, so as to avoid the early termination char...

The etf would still apply. For a change of financial responsibility I would imagine that should the new account holder wish to terminate service with AT&T wireless within 30 days the account would be placed back under the original account holder's name and contract unless another cofr could be done. To be quite honest, etf's are never waived. For AT&T or anyone else.

I don't think that going through a change of financial responsibility on the mobile phone number restarts your 30 risk-free trial period.

I think that this 30 day period applies only to the original opening of your account, (THE FIRST 30 DAYS that you had YOUR NUMBER).

I don't think that this is a loop-hole to get around the $175.00 ETF, but it is inventive.

Casper 69 is right-there is no buyer's remorse period on a COFR-a buyer's remorse period is given when you extend your contract or agree to a new one-if you did a COFR you agreed to a contract that was already binding and the buyers's remorse period had passed-if you cancel your service the ETF will apply

AT&T Wireless has 30 day a grace period ONLY if you add promotions, or if you activate a new line of service. Changing financial responsibilty is not going to give you or your friend a 30 day get out of "contract free card".

I am right with applauding Big Daddy. I hate it when people try to get out contracts that they sign.

when you do a cofr, the new financially liable party takes over the contract. if you did a cofr, the new FLP will have the new number, and you could still not do a port out with that number, if the new flp did a teleconversion, the number that you had would now go into a pool for new activations..either way..you would not get your number ported..and, by the way, att has no contracts over 2 years. I would call your CS rep to find out what your contract end date is. And there is very good incentives right now to keep your attws service.

you would still be charged the eairly termantion fee because if you to a COFR the person that takes control of the account keeps the same contract end date and there buyers remorse is over all ready.
