AT&T Wireless sets mid-February deadline for bids

PHILADELPHIA, Jan 27 (Reuters) - AT&T Wireless Services Inc. on Tuesday set a mid-February deadline for suitors to submit final offers, dragging out the speculation over the fate of the No. 3 U.S. wireless company for another three weeks.
AT&T Wireless (AWE.N: Quote, Profile, Research) , which has a market capitalization of about $30.36 billion, said it expects firm proposals to be submitted by Feb. 13. It agreed not to forge any contract or agreement for a deal before then, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

I think that the DoCoMo interest is there to drive up price. By saying they might be interested, the others may be forced to drive up their bid price.

As for the possible suitors, Deutch Telecom (owners of T-Mobile) announced today that they are not in an acquistion mindset at this time.

I think the Cingular thing will happen. It makes the most sense. Same technology, etc. The question remains for how much????

Well, it's really official now. The boards for Bell South and SBC have given their official approval for Cingular to pursue AWS. Granted we already knew this, unofficially though.
