I don't think it's a "come to work and be a robot" scenario...at least not for me.
At my call center, we have very limited access to the Internet, thanks to those who continue to abuse the policies and procedures set forth by AWS and the call center manager.
At our call center, we are far from being robots. In fact, we have a great group of people who try their best to provide world class customer service, as I am sure every AWS employee strives to do. However, I personally don't feel that it's worth risking my job to post while on company time and company equipment. They don't pay me to do that, and I respect that.

I know...it's cool. I have seen people walked out for abusing computer/Internet policies, and I have had way too many run in with Murphy and his damn Laws to risk doing anything like that while at work.
And it's hard too...because before AWS I worked 7 years doing customer service and tech support for an ISP here in Oklahoma. There we had full access to the 'net and could do anything we wanted...well almost. No porn. ;)

Yeah, I tend to agree with about tech and res having no firewalls.
However, just to make it clear...I am very happy with my current situation and don't feel like I am treated like a piece of meat. (wow...how "kiss ass" did that sound...LOL)
It's the truth tho. I've been doing customer service, in some sort of fashion, for over 12 years now. It's what I do...it's what I'm good at. I've found a good company to work for, they treat me right and put good food on my table for me and my family. Why risk it? If I ever feel like I'm being screwed out of something, I'm outta there.
