GSM Unlocked Phone Setting Help

My friend got the Samsung D900 unlocked GSM phone but can't send or receive picture/multimedia messages. It keeps saying subscriber not registered? I send from my sprint phone and she receives the photo but when trys to download it subscriber not registered? She used to get them and send them from her crappy suncom phone. WHy can't she just pop her sim card in and good to go?
