New Every 2 time: Which phone should I get? Razr or ?????

Basically, my question is "Should I look at anything other than the Razr?"

I'm ready for an upgrade after 2 years, here are my initially options:
(1) Motorola RAZR V3m (silver or pink ... it would be silver :yummy: )
(2) Verizon Wireless CDM 8945 (whatever this thing is)
(3) LG VX8300
(4) Samsung SCH-a930
(5) Motorola E815
(6) Nokia 6236i (not digging the candy-bar style)
(7) Verizon Wireless PN-215
(😎 Samsung SCH-a850
(9) Motorola V325
(10) LG VX5200 (what I have now)

I started w/ Samsung A670, insurance replaced it w/ an LG VX5200 (pretty nice phone, kinda large but works fine). I'd like something similar, small, good reception, fairly rugged ... I'm not looking to watch vcast or anything like PDA functionality, mostly w...

Yeah. Plus they break at the drop of a hat too... physical breakage... battery issues too.

Blah, then go w/ the e815... At least if it's a Motorola it'll have a good speaker...

I'd stay away from the Razr. The novelty of it wears off in about a week, and you're stuck with a lousy phone.
The LG8300 is great. Also, the Moto V325 is fine too.

What? She wants a small phone. The 815 is too bulky.

No, actually all the previous problems have been resolved with the new V3m's. They work great!

How much are they paying you?

And the number ONE problem in my area is physical breakage... they're inherently flimsy...

I gotta go with Mary on this one. Biggest issue in my area is software related and those issues seem to have been resolved.

The Razr is a fine phone *if* you take into account the fact that since it's slim there's less "give" between the circuit board and the wall of the phone. If (like me) you are clumsy and occasionally drop your phone, the Razr is not the device for you. If you're the kind of person who can keep something for a couple months without it looking beat up, the Razr might be more down your alley.

Unfortunately, the Razr is also really VZW's only "small" phone right now. If you can live with the size, I recommend the 8100 while it's still out, the Samsung a950, or the Motorola e815. I've heard mixed reviews about the 8300.

i have the razr, hate it, but anyway i would waite a few weeks for the chocolate! that thing looks tight, if you have to get a phone right now i suggest mo325 if you must have moto, or go with the 8300. The 815 is a nice phone, but just to old for my taste.

Is it really only a few weeks away from coming out? The earlist prediction I've seen is August 16. Do you know anything else?

no, but that isn't that far away, and since Verizon already has a teaser on their website i wouldn't be surprised if it is available on the web earlier than the 16th, but who knows for sure. that is only 4 weeks. I have been eligible to upgrade for months but have been holding out for somethng i really wanted, passed on the 8300(i loved my 8100, but just wanted something a little different) skipped the a990, didn't get that great of reviews, but i am jumping on the choclate.

Get the VX8300. Just check the reviews on it. It has the highest out of all those phones. You can't ignore those numbers. You can get the E815 and then in a year or so when the charging port goes out you'll have to get it replaced.

I like the 8300 but I'm hoping to find something a little thinner if possible, which it seems more an more means the v3m.

but the Chocolate seems interesting ... anyone know the thickness of it? Other dimentions?

Thanks everyone!

It won't be as thin as the razr. But check the specs on the 8300 compared to the 5200. its a little longer (and so is the Razr) and wider (and so is the razr) but it is actually 1mm thinner than the 5200.

Oh and btw the 8300 gets way better battery life than the razr. A very overlooked feature in most cases. I like the v3m alot. but based on what you said in the original post I really think the 8300 beats the razr in almost every category.

1. the camera is a push. as both are about the same

2. 8300 gets as good a signal as any phone VZW has. (yes even the 815 all you moto luvrs!)

3.Way better battery life

4.Not only are the speakers (8300 has two to the razrs one) but its in stereo sound, so the quality is better as well.

5. OK the Razr IS thinner but it is longer and wider. The razr's thinness and width IMO actually makes texting harder to do with one hand. The 8300 just fits better in your hand.

but thats just MY O...

Thanks, that was very helpful.
Regarding my considerations you addressed:
(1) You're right, I have an SD600 for photos, they're the same on the phones to me.
(2) I hear that the 8300 gets good reception, but is it really better than the razr? Are they on par?
(3) The stand by time sure seems better for the 8300, but the talk time's similar. I have to plug my VX5200 in every other day, I'd be fine with something similar or slightly better.
(4) I don't mind the speaker quality on the Razr's I've looked at (my roommate has one and the quality seems superior to my VX5200, which is just fine. Better is good, but the Razr is good enough really.
(5) I don't text much at all so that's not really a factor. The depth really does seem more i...

Seems to be a lot of RAZR haters out there. I’ll give my opinions based on experience. I think I’m relatively unbiased, I like both LG and MOTO and IMO both collectively are the best Verizon offers.

The impressions below are from direct experience with various phones including the V3c I bought for my 14 yo son this past March:

Reception - Good to very good. Best reception of any internal antenna phone I’ve dealt with (which isn’t many). Not as good as E815 but a little better than vx8100 and much better than Sammy a950. I don’t have experience with the 8300 so I can’t compare.

Software bugs – Have had no probs. It’s a later model V3c so bugs may have been ironed out by the time we got this phone. Can’t comment on V3m but based on po...

Thanks, that was the most honest and thought out reply I've gotten! I think I'll start out w/the razr and if I like it then stick w/it and otherwise trade in for the VX8300 or wait for the Chocolate.
