Verizon Communications: this would be your landline provider. Basic definition of landline: the phone in your home/office that has a wire attached to one end and the other end of the wire attaches to the wall. the distance you can travel with this phone is limited to the length of the wire. ☚ī¸

Verizon Wireless: your wireless provider. This phone can also be used in your home/office but can also be used miles away from any walls. 😉

If people would read the article from USA Today, they would see that there is absolutely no mention of ANY wireless company in the United States providing consumers phone records.

And who should we really be voicing our anger to anyway........the big man in charge, President George W. Bush...

They are not the same company..The may use the same name but totally different...

VZW - is the old GTE and Vodaphone wireless only. Look at the company info that is provided here

VZW was formed by the numerous mergers: mainly Bell Atlantic Mobile & GTE Wireless, but also Airtouch Cellular (was owned by Vodaphone), Primeco (Chicago market was divested), Ameritech Cellular (only Chicago & St Louis Markets), and only Cricket's network & customers in Michigan.

As for Verizon Communications, that was formed by GTE & Bell Atlantic, and it was Bell Atlantic that bought GTE, & GTE was the ...

Such misinformation. Verizon wireless is a 100% owned division of Verizon Communications. Don't believe me? Check out this description of Verizon under there stock symbol. VZ:

Also, near the end of the USA today article, it specifically mentions that wireless customers are included, bring the total number of customers affected to 200 million.

Whether you agreee it's OK for them to release the phone records against the law (as Qwest believes), please get the fact straight that VZW is included. Veri

One correction (I admit when I make a mistake), currently Vodaphone has a 40% stake in Verizon's Wireless division. Verizon is in the process of buyout out Vodaphone's stake.
In any event, VZW is included in the phone records released to the govt.

I am not following it that closely to know...Is Sprint and T-mobile involved in the thing??

And if they aren't why not? If VZW and Cingular are involved, they should be too...

To be honest with you, we don't really know whether they're listening to the conversations, or just collecting information. We also don't really know whether they are or are not tapping into cellular conversations as well. We really don't know, one way or the other. I'm sure that by now, there are devices, like the old scanners that could tap into an analog signal, that are out there and can decode digital signals. This is all ultra high-tech stuff, and, to echo the sentiments of another participant, we are stuck with Dubya for another two years. I do hope the country will wake up and understand that the violations of personal freedoms this administration have done are doing a lot more damage than good. Just about anything can be done,...

Lay off the PRESIDENT. there is no proof that anything he has done is illegal. it is just reported in the left wing liberal newspapers because they will write anything to make him look bad. As far as I am concerned if it helps keep our country safe than so be it. And by the way the calls were just international calls to and from the US. There was no mention of domestic calls and they were only people suspected of terrorist activity
