The National Security Agency has been secretly collecting the phone call records of tens of millions of Americans, using data provided by AT&T, Verizon and BellSouth

I would like to know the same thing. I signed up with Verizon assuming my records will be kept private, unless the govt gets a warrant for having probable cause that I did something illegal. I really hate the idea that Verizon and AT&T are selling the last 3 years of phone records to the US govt without any kind of warrant for every single customer. Every call we ever made is itemized.
Do the other cellular carriers do that? Which ones don't? I know Qwest refused to cooperate on this, and I commend them highly. And am totally disillusioned with Verizon.

as long as it keeps us safe then so be it."

That's just retarded if you think tapping lines is going to make the country safer. 9/11 had all the signs and CIA bush and all the other ftards didn't do anything about it. To sit here and say tapping millions and millions of customers is goi...

Nextel18 had a few points:

#1: We're at war!
#2: Only people who have something to hide need worry.
#3: Terrorists are in the US right now!

Really, so that gives the government the right to do what it wants, nevermind the constitution, bii of rights, and the geneva covention.

#2: Only people who have something to hide need worry.

I got nothing to hide. I rent, drive a car, have a job, and go to college. Like I said, if u don't believe me, I'll be glad to assist you in getting the info about me. It's funny when someone expresses thier right disscent they're imdiatly suspected of having something to hide.lol ...

It's not an issue of defending your rights, it's an issue of taking a pragmatic approach to explaining your rights. A lot of things have changed in the way we (GOV/USA) do business since WWII.

This is Veizon Communications in the article, not Verizon Wireless. Your privacy is important to VZW and VZW will only release your records to a government agent with a subpeona. I agree with all those saying that your calls are private, and unless I have been misguided, so does VZW.

All of you morons who are complaiing about this should read this excerpt from the article on MSNBC.

"Verizon Wireless spokesman Jeffrey Nelson definitively said his company was “not involved in this situation.” His counterparts at Cingular — an AT&T/BellSouth joint venture — and Sprint Nextel Corp. were less explicit and did not deny any participation."

I hate the media in this country, it sucks!!! They report half truthes and get many people all angry, scared and upset about things that are not even true. If a reporter cannot be 100% certain that something is true they should not legally be allowed to report it. And if they do report something that ends up being untrue the media outlet that allowed them to report the story should ...

The funniest things about this debate are:

#1 As stated a billion times on this post it is NOT Verizon Wireless that is involved.

#2 The same people b*tching about their right to privacy are the same ones that are in the malls, groceries, and restaurants everyday blathering on their cell phones (on speakerphone so you can hear both sides of their incessant rambling) about their lives and talking about their best friends, sister's, brother's, boyfriend's, cousin's, uncle who has hemorrhoids while you are just trying to enjoy a nice cup of latte and relax. Privacy? HA!

How do you know it's the same people? I'm very private in my use of my phone, and I object to records being collected by the government without the normal steps being taken to protect privacy. Whether or not I have anything to hide is certainly n...
