Anyway to port a number out and get new number but keep plan

I have a unlimited everything plan on my account is there anyway to let my friend port his number out and get a new number on the line he ported out? I'm not trying to lose the unlimited data plan I just want him to keep his number and let me keep the plan. I know that typically when porting out it kills the line but I'm not wanting to lose the line and data. Thanks in advance

Interesting query but I don't think so. Porting out causes a disconnection in the billing system and you lose whatever plans/features you have. After that, with the number ported out the line can't be reconnected (or so I've been lead to believe) with a different phone number. On the other hand, if you change your friend's number before he goes to another carrier, the old number goes back into Verizon's pool and can't be ported. It's not some sinister plot, it's just a combination of functions in the billing system that are mutually exclusive of each other.

Tell your friend that if he wants to change carriers he should suck it up and get a different phone number.
