Upgrade - Razr Maxx HD or wait?

I have a Motorola Droid X2 and really have no problems with it. My upgrade is available though and it wouldn't be right for me to just let it sit there. My wife has the Samsung Galaxy S III, and while it is nice, it feels a little light (like the heavier phone) to me.

So, I was looking at the Moto Razr Maxx HD. The phone looks really good, and the reviews all seem positive. My question is, since it has been out for about 5 months, should I wait just another month or two for a different phone that may be even better.

Problem is, I don't see any other phones out there that are "coming soon" that I'd have to have. The only other phone I've read about was the LG Optimus G, but that isn't on Verizon, and I have not seen the LG Optimus ...

I do...But this has always been the issue...I cant afford to go out and plunk down $500 on a new phone just so I can keep my unlimited. Do you have any ideas as to where and get a phone on the cheap side?

Ebay is out of the question...Any othher ideas?

I think there's a few things to consider here. MOST people don't use nearly as much data as they think. It's possible with the new plans to get out a little bit better depending on your usage.

If you're one of those data hogs if you will maybe you should consider voting with your feet. T-Mobile, Sprint, and Metro PCS all have unlimited data. The down side is LTE is non-existent at T-Mobile, limited at Sprint, and limited at Metro.

Finally, if you elect to stay with Verizon and want to keep your unlimited, Wireless Emporium is reliable. The downside is that when they have relatively current phones they sellout quickly. Good luck!

This site is a little wrong...They have the ATT HTC One X listed as being compatible with Verizon Wireless...Really weird:

I guess you gotta know your phones. I never noticed that and have used them a few times.

I'm a data hog. I'm sticking with Verizon as long as I can though. We'll see how things work out.

Your best bet is to deal directly with a private individual.

Yes - I do, so there shouldn't be any issues with that. I think I'm pretty set on getting the Razr Maxx HD this weekend. Costco's deal of $99 + dock and case is too good to pass up.

Upgrading with a discount is going to cost you your unlimited data feature. Are you willing to drop to 2GB?

Not to come off like a jerk...But there are some people that cannot afford $400 for a new phone just to keep unlimited data...There are some people that can and for that I say great. I myself if I had the money $400+ to purchase a new phone outright, would something else to do with the money say put it towards my mortgage or bills or something...Just Sayin'

??

Yeah, but some people just don't need to have unlimited data. He was just asking if he was willing to drop down to 2GB.

To the original poster: I fail to see what is right about upgrading just for the sake of upgrading. It just seems wasteful to me.

To Sparker: I would never have posed that question to you as I know that you know that the Unlimited data plan will be lost if one upgrades. I don't know the OP nor do I know if he needs unlimited data nor what his financial situation is. I DO know that he does not have a legitimate reason to upgrade at all. If he has an unlimited data plan with his X2 and will upgrade to some garbage handset and LOSE his unlimited data plan then hell yeah I am going to warn him (because the Verizon reps likely won't).

To play devils advocate, here, sometimes it does make sense to upgrade for no reason.

You pay the same money monthly regardless of if you're in contract or not. It makes sense to take the money Verizon is giving you in the form of a subsidy instead of sitting and paying the monthly bill on a line that can upgrade.

Happy with your phone? Upgrade and sell it. Make some money in the process.

...nothing else were changing. HOWEVER if he takes advantage of the subsidy he LOSES the unlimited data feature. Are you paying attention to every question I posed to the original poster or did you just get in on the tail end and decide to shake your self at me? Yeah, when I was a Verizon employee, damn right I took advantage of my upgrade and sold the new handset on Ebay. ($400 for an LG Dare ONLY in America...but I digress). So yeah...I'm all for it IF the original poster ever answers the questions I posed then I will advise him further. I'm certainly not an angel and therefore have no use for a devil to oppose me. Thanks anyway. Have a wonderful day.

didn't mean to rustle your jimmies there, kiddo...not exactly sure why you decided to take the holier than thou tone with me but heres this.

What if he doesn't care about the unlimited data? (that happens to be the same question i asked earlier)

But thanks for your rational discourse, regardless....

So sorry about the delay, and any mental anguish and suffering (was blown away when I came back in here and saw 15+ responses - sort of took a life of it's own).

So, to clear one thing up - my wife upgraded to the SSGSIII last year, so we were already on the share everything 4GB plan (it works for us).

I went into Costco and did the upgrade. $99, plus a bonus pack: additional car/wall charger, screen protectors, carrying case, belt case (gave to wife). Then, I just sent away for the car nav dock and a phone case, which is also free with their deal.

All in all I absolutely love the phone.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Mike
