Most email-based issues originate with the email provider itself, not your cellphone carrier or your home ISP. If you're getting spam from your own email address (your words) then you might check the provider. That said, on the issue of your phone getting an infection theoretically it is possible, so you might consider adding protection. "Lookout" is very popular, as are others. AVG, Norton and Avast all get 4-1/2 stars for their products as well. Also, to avoid an infection consider the source of your downloads and only add apps from a good place. Many providers have "Click here to get our new Android app" on their websites, but consider looking it up in the Google Play Store or the Amazon App Store instead. You might not be totally immune, but you can cut down the odds of getting an infection.
