Yeah, Verizon Wireless doesn't actually manufacture phones. Blame them for choosing what's offered to them from the manufacturer, most of which could care less about standard phones these days.

I've heard this sentiment from others. although not put quite the same way as the OP. But never the less there are customers who don't want any data and use a phone primarily for talking and texting. And haven't figured out data is a huge money maker for cellular companies.
But I've heard over & over "All they have are smartphones!"

It's a money grab that I'm just sick of. We are all important and should be treated as such. I know verizon offers flip phones, but if they make them so unappealing and don't display them in their stores then they really are corraling people like a herd of sheep.

Ya'll are right about their selection of dumb phones, their the worst in the industry imo. They really don't want the telephony business anymore and it shows. Too bad, they used to be pretty damn good. Every review on every dumb phone is horrendous.

That is correct. I think they will quit the wireless business in 2012 and go back to there wired phone business exclusively.

Verizon will exit the wireless business in 2012 and will just be a wired provider.

I disagree with you Epik. There are a lot of good dumb phones available on CDMA right now. Verizon has chosen not to offer a wide selection because the money is in selling data and such that come along with advanced wireless devices.

The demand (at least in corporate sales) is for smartphones & data devices. Of over 50 orders I have placed this month, only 6 were standard handsets. Econ 101 - supply & demand.

I recommend looking at PagePlus. You seem like their type.

That's witty of you changing the subject line like that and stereotyping me as PP sub! Did you learn that in school? or are you just a jack ass?

Actually, I thought I was making a decent suggestion. PagePlus uses the VZW network, so you'll get almost the same level of service. The costs are lower, and you won't get saddled with a smartphone you don't want.

I have a handful of friends on PagePlus. I don't think lowly of them at all.

But, as recently moved-on-with-life seven year Verizon Wireless Technical Support employee, I can safely say that they don't want you. They don't want low-paying customers who are happy with simple devices.

Verizon is not interested in growing their f...

Agreed, just as I wouldn't be insulting anyone by saying they should consider Metro if it's in their area. I use Metro and it just works. My wife uses CDMA on Boost. Boost is to Sprint as PagePlus is to Verizon. No shame in that at all.

Actually, this might be just what you're looking for if you want to stay on Verizon.

A bit on the expensive side for my taste, but you don't have to carry a data pack on it.

I need to ask what the heck do you want out of a simple phone? There is not much more that can be done to a simple phone with out having to charge $200 to buy one. If you add a bunch of high features, camera, screen resolution, touch screen etc, you are just increasing the price at which the phone has to be sold since here is not going to be an additional monthly revenue to offset the subsidy. VZW did try to give you end feature phones and have you add a $10 data plan, but all everyone did was bit** about that too. You cannot have it both ways.
