Amen brother! I am getting so sick of the same old square black blocks which by the way are getting thicker and thicker.

Gone are the day you have a small flip to put in a pocket. I guess the kids these days MUST have a minature computer with them at all times. They can't wait to get to home and/or to work to use a real one.

Again, if the carriers did not promote or push these Smartphone bricks, $$$$$ would not be generated from the Data plans would they?

Simple flips did not offer that income.

Amen well said it's easy to get caught up in it, but I just couldn't take it anymore. I don't need to be connected! I want to be low tech disconnected! Don't get me started on FB, I got sucked into that crap friends who are supposedly your friends posting mundane crap 24 hours a day, Jesus I don't care where you are eating! Then some how I begin to feel obligated to check it, even though it's all me I don't want it anymore. I bought the Motorola Barrage and just leave me the hell alone, call me!

There are still billions of ppl who enjoy a sold flip! and I'm one of them. I love all cellular tech even the huge monstrous slabs of glass, but mostly gave in because all the damn ppl texting me instead of picking up the damn phone. I have the Droid Pro mostly because I can txt like a mad dog, BUT my true love is my Nextel Brute on boostmobile shrinkage now only paying 35 a month ( unlimited) It works better than my PRO, and I actually enjoy talking on it!

I hate texting too. It's so, so impersonal.

Yup and it's mostly just worthless BS anyways, the worse offender is my Mom! but that's a long story she did not raise me yet thinks building a relationship via txt is the way to go! 🙄 It's funny the people really close to me always just pick up the phone....maybe I shall stop txting all together.

Yeah, my middle sister is similar. I can't even remember the last time me and my middle sister had a voice conversation. We mostly communicate through email. Her work email, and my smartphone Gmail.

It's sad how informal of a world we live in now.

Not just texting, but FB is also very informal,... I think.

I really agree with you Jay...nothing beats hanging out sharing good times together. I guess FB has its place if distance separates you sharing pictures and whatnot, but for the most part it's just another gateway to PM & IM!

I can understand that a smart phone can wear on your nerves, (at least me) I know most don't share this sentiment. I know without a doubt the mer suggestion that the wife switch to a dumb phone gets me the look! I know Jay ain't ever giving up his Charge! 🙂

I see it everyday customers coming in demanding the latest greatest POS android smart phone! I refuse to use one!

What's happening just like many situations people are refusing to think for themselves! Do I need a smart phone? Most people that really need a smart phone, their company provides it for them. The average person does NOT need to have access to email, and certainly does not need to be able to connect to the Internet!

Yet you see it everyday people holding it in their hands waving it around like it defines who they are! They can't sit down at the theater without checking the phone! (why?) because they see everybody else checking theirs, it's to the point people are doing it subconsciously! They open the phone, then closes b...

I think something that you are missing is that the people who get smartphones in this generation are people who had pocket pc's or PDAs in the past. People who carried around game boys or sega genesis handheld gaming systems.

In more recent generations, it gets the people who are legit addicted to facebook out of the computer room and allows them to some way to get out and experience real life. You can get sport scores at work. There are more benefits and demographics that I think you are plain ignoring.

Thank you for your reply. I understand what you're saying and can relate. I'm no spring chicken here I'm 40 years young so I grew up in the era you speak of. I had Atari and later SEGA and some hand held games, mostly the cheap football ones with the dots!

Just like anyone these are my thoughts, probably a product of my age more than I want to admit! But I don't know I see very old men and women who now feel the need to be connected, maybe for their grand kids, or they feel the need to fit in with todays society.

I'm just of the opinion that the smart phone has to much control over us, I'd rather take a walk, bird watch, sit by the water, etc without feeling the need to take a picture and share it on FB. I rather have it be my experi...

Most people with smart phones do dumb things. I'm glad Gieco put it out there in their last commercial. 😎

My favorite phone was the Moto RAZR 2(V9M). As I traveled more, needed ready access to public bus schedules, tasks/information for school and work when I am in town or travel clamshell phones started to become more of a handicap.
I have the thunderbolt and the ONLY complaint I have is the battery life. Do we really need "smart" phones to do social networking, gaming and music all the time, in my opinion... no.
