Voice and Data Plan question

Hi!

Verizon customer here for many many years. I have a question about voice plans and data plans.

I'm looking at my monthly usage and I see i have 13 days left on my bill.

As of now, I have used up 48 of my 450 anytime minutes, 621 nights/weekend minutes, 97 mobile to mobile minutes. On the data side, I've consumed 1.37GB. All this on my Motorola Droid X.

Based on my monthly usage, you can see I'm a decent data user (don't know if I'd qualify as a data abuser yet) and not a heavy talker.

Is there a way to get pre-paid minutes or pay as you go voice minutes AND unlimited data? I feel that I'm REALLY paying too much on the voice side and would like to lower that cost if possible.

If it's not possible, the world won't end ...

You can get a PDA on prepaid, BUT prepaid is almost always more expensive. From looking at your minutes I'd say you make at least one phone call every day. Prepaid is at least .99/day on the days you use the phone. So you're looking at $30/month right there off the top. That only includes unlimited mobile to mobile. All other calls are also .10/minute on top of that. So as you you can see, if you hardly make any calls at all the contract plan is way cheaper.

Thank you for that well described answer. Looks like I'll stick with my plan. $90/ month is pricey.. Was hoping to lower this.

To add to that, the coverage on prepay is NOT the same as on a contract postpay plan, so that could cause some issues and/or roaming depending on one's area.

And even if they went with the $1.99/day unlimited minutes plan, they'd be at $60/mo, and that's still before texting and unlimited data.

The best thing I ever did was switch to Google Voice for text messaging service.

Register for a free Google Voice account, star sending all your text messages out through the GV app, and in six weeks when everyone you text regularly has learned your new phone number, dump down to the $39.99 plan without text and save yourself $20 a month.

I think they still have a $34.99 plan for 300 minutes as well. It has no m2m and only 1,000 n&w instead of unlimited, but it might work for you unless your n&w usage explodes so you'll have to watch for that.

I linked up with some extended family on my account and got the 1400 plan split on four Androids with my 18% discount at work and using GV for all the text messages. Pre-tax, that's l...

Prepaid PDA devices require minimum of $44.99 450 minute Prepaid Monthly plan, the only real advantage is for people with $400 security deposits.
