HTC Thunderbolt and Insuance: Worth it?

youaremyhero

Is it worth it to pay $5.18/month or $6.99/month (depending on the type of insurance) for insurance, with a $99 deductible? I got the phone for about $200. So in 1 year, this total will be $62.16 or $83.88. If I go through one year and my phone gets lost after that year it will be $62.16/$83.88 + $99.99.

Is it worth it?

I probably will get a new phone after 1 or 2 years.

it is $600 retail.

Insurance: You don't have it when ya need it. When you have it, you don't use it.

Glad I could help 🤣

I don't get the original post??? Deductibles on a smartphone don't change based on having had it for a year. Deductable for a smartphone is $89.99. The original poster through around multiple numbers, I don't get it.

But yeah, insurance on a smartphone is most definetly a good idea!

They weren't talking about the deductible changing. Depending on which type of insurance they signed up for, the monthly payment would change $5.18 or $6.99/ month. Then they calculated those premiums over a 12 month period (62.16 or 83.8😎 plus the 99.99 deductible.

However, they need to calculate over 2 years as there is no more annual upgrade on a 2 year plan. If they paid $200 on a 1 year plan, and then paid $183.87 in premeiums and deductible, they could get the phone replaced with most likely a refurb phone, but the insureance isn't redeemed at the end of the year, it is usually redeemed earlier, so they wouldn't have paid 83.88. It is always cheaper to get the insurance than pay full retail for the phone. Downside is if you don't m...

Everyone has left out the fact that you can usually find phones on the used market if you're willing to do that.

If you don't mind a used phone, I wouldn't pay for the insurance. If you're above that then you shouldn't be above paying the premium.

Dude, there are people in the Thunderbolt forum claiming to be able to do voice & data simultaneously in NON 4G markets. You should check these posts out and set these people straight.

Now I'm confused. When your someplace w/o 700mhz LTE the Thunderbolt should behave exactly the same way as any other CDMA smartphone.

So forget about the LTE radio in the TB. Are you saying that the CDMA radio in the TB is different than the CDMA radio in every other 3G CDMA smartphone?

Yes, or we wouldn't have the resulting simultaneous voice and data.

Yes.

Traditional CDMA smartphones use a single chip to process the 1x transmissions and the EVDO transmissions. A single chipset can only do one thing at a time.

With the Tunderbolt, HTC was not able to fit 1x, EVDO and LTE all into one chipset, so the device had to have two chipsets.

However, instead of using the same-old 1x+EVDO chip and throwing in an independent LTE chipset, they put in a stand-alone 1x recievier and bundled the EVDO and LTE on a single chipset.

This means that while your phone calls are being processed ove...

The Comet is made by Huawei... are they associated with HTC?

Besides that, I doubt that he has the money to pay for his Flexpay plan and the retail cost of that phone That would be a minimum of $220 up front. My bet is that he is on MetroPCS.

So January 10 of this year, you said this:

I am eligible for an NE2 Discount Upgrade + $100 Credit. It was effective 6/14/2010.

Right now, I can get a Droid X for free with NE2.

I would rather wait for an HTC Thunderbolt, Droid Bionic, or iPhone 4.

My questions:

-Is it worth using the discount and credit to stay with Verizon for 2 years?

-Which phone is the best?

-What would be the costs for the aforementioned phones? Will I have to pay more?

People still respond to this liar?

Well ignoring him for a moment, epik let me respond to this statement you made.

"someone inside Verizon was dumb enough to even give you a $100 credit for no real reason"

I am certainly not validating this guys story, but your statement should nevertheless be addressed. When I was in Tech I had three supervisors who I could go to if I wanted to get a customer a break and yes on occasion it has been selling out a smartphone with discounts as much as the full retail price of the phone. Why would I do that? I would only go to bat for a customer if I felt it was justified, but sometimes the customers would request a supervisor. If the customer was being a *Bleepard* then I always flagged down the s...

Oh, I know it happens. I've seen some pretty crazy stuff from a few of the nooks and crannies of the company where a $100 bill credit is easily made. But some sort of magical extra-NE2 discount for a single customer that never expires? I doubt it. Whenever I see escalation offers extended to customers, they don't have an infinite expiration date. In my post I was speculating as to the nature of his so-called "$100 discount on a phone." If it were a bill credit, fine, but when he went to buy the phone it wouldn't suddenly kick in like he claims - it would have simply been a $100 credit on his next bill. If he were given an extra $100 credit on a phone through his employee discount, I could see that, but it definitely wouldn't be initia...

I understand. I still believe it is another Scooper posing. NO ONE can be THAT clueless. I was just thinking about the Supe I had who would do anything to avoid taking an escalation. I learned VERY quickly to go to anyone else to protect my STI check. I hated giving away the house when I felt financially invested in the company. In hindsight, I wish I had been a little less frugal.

Oh, I'm confident that it's another Scooper.

And as for your frugality, I always tell people in the business that being a good employee and being a good person are often two different things. As long as you find a responsible medium while caring for others and not acting like a total d-bag, you're doing a good "job."

Having customers who escalate over .40 cents for 2 recieved texts in a month and some who accept the overages for $80... It really is a mixed bag as to who would recieve the justified credit and since I can't (by policy) proactively offer the credits it's sometimes hard to justify some things.
