Page Plus Cellular

Hi All,

I have been with Verizon for the past 8 years and am very satisfied however, a friend of mine told me about Page Plus Cellular. They use the Verizon network and from what I can tell you can activate almost any Verizon phone sans BlackBerry.

The cost is amazing and I know you get what you pay for. I've been reading reviews and most of the negative comments center around their customer service. The majority of reviewers are satisfied with their coverage.

Any thoughts??? Pros and cons??

Thanks!!

Unlimited Text and Talk for $45. Verizon network and no customer service to speak of. You have to ask yourself is Verizon's B plus customer service worth an extra forty-five per month?

Thanks Azeron for the response. My experience in general with Verizon customer service has been terrible. I loathe when I have to call to activate a phone cause they always screw something up.

Not every representative screws things up, but if this is your worry, you can always do it yourself... If it doesn't let you do it by using *228 you can always go online. The majority of the time it fails over the phone is due to the change of an important feature like a data plan or the name of your text plan (which isn't important to you but is to the system).

Yeah, I know there are a lot of good reps and I don't mean to imply that they are all bad. It's just more often than not I know more that the rep I'm speaking with. I always have to call when I switch between my Droid X and BlackBerry Tour because even though the data plans cost the same something in Verizon's system is coded differently so a rep has to do the switch. Unfortunately, I have to do this pretty often as I travel often overseas for work. I have a hard time understanding why the system can't be set up to automatically apply the correct data package. Based on the ESN the system should know what kind of device I'm trying to activate.

It does and here we have to do little more than put the device id (and in your case the sim) into the computer and it does it for us. The problem is the automated system is set up to alert you of every data plan change, regardless of what cost. The representatives you are getting are probably new or just around for the paycheck. I on the other hand enjoy assisting people. I like my job, good and bad. If someone calls in and yells from the start I usually let them say their piece about how the service sucks or how their phone is a pos or how I personally can't due the job I'm trained to do. As long as someone doesn't open with "I want a supervisor" We can work together to do whatever they want within reasona and with justification.

Thanks for the response and explanation johnnyb. I never raise my voice or ask to speak with a supervisor cause I realize it's the reps that do this stuff day in and day out.

I had no idea that the turnover rate was so high in this industry. At least it seems that way. Most of the time I call I must be getting newer reps. Frankly, I really wouldn't have a need to call if it wasn't for this device switching thing that I have to worry about.

The turnover rate is so bad that the center i work at is constantly hiring constantly. usually about 20 start class every other week. I don't know if that is the exception or if that's common. Most people don't make it past ojt.

Yeah i think that is pretty standard there are people who have been around for years and then there are people who make it like 6 months and then give up. I have been in the industry for a year now and out of 27 people in my training class maybe 20 people made it 3 months like 10-15 made it 6 months and now there are literally me and 2 other people left. So 3 people out of 27 made it a year and still going strong.

We were doing a new training class like every week and then nothing for 3 or 4 months and then back to the hiring craze.

It should...but... I think the reason there are separate data features for Blackberries is back in olden days all Blackberries required data plans and other advanced devices did not.

Even olden days were numbered. Blackberry required data plans before PDA phones did, but they didn't always require them. It was around the time of the Pearl's release that it started. The 8703e was still around when the requirements started. I recall activating 7130s and 7250s without data.

I hate calling CS, too and I once worked there. If you're activating a lot of phones (and you stay with them) I recommend making changes via My Verizon or just *228 Send option 1 from the phone you are switching to.

Customer service is soso. Its not nearly as bad as some other carriers though. It is all US based currently, so you won't be directed to a call center in Mexico, India, or Nicaragua.

I recommend activating with a dealer rather than directly with PagePlus. They can act as your liaison if you run into issues, and its good to have a personal contact in these situations.

Here are some dealers I know of, these shouldn't be considered recommendations or endorsements from me. Look around prior to jumping ship.
