Hot Spot Tethering and iPhone/Verizon

gooch

Just got the iphone last Friday. Really like it thus far except...

I am on the road (unfortunately in hospital mucho these days) and in past have used PDA NET with my HTC to tether. Was free to do so.

With iphone4/Verizon for personal Hotspot is 20 bucks a month for 2G. (this is over and beyond the normal monthly data plan fee) If you go over 2G another 20bucks.
Well, In a matter of days I had used 90%.

Hate to lose this phone and go Droid but need an unlimited plan or a cheaper solution.

Thank you for any help.

Sounds like an android fan boy. You can jailbreak the iPhone and get free tethering apps just like android. Carriers charge for tethering so with either phone it's something you're not supposed to do. All these android people get the droid because it's the closest thing to an iPhone and then claim it's better. If you see in his post he days he likes the phone.

Im not totally sure, but i would only imagine that Verizon has a way of knowing your using PDAnet to tether by the amount of usage in a certain timeframe. I could only imagine they would flag your account dependany on the amount of usage inccured.

I could be wrong, but your think so.

Any android phone/iphone offers the hotspot feature which is $20, its not jus thte iphone. There are just way around it with android.

As you will. It is the only solution for him. There is no Unlimited tethering option for him without scamming PDA net and the PDA net free option does not allow for browsing secure sites. Droid is his only solution whether it is inferior or not. I don't think he cares, but ask him. I have unlimited tethering.

To each their own. Your profile includes a post about your love of the iPhone 3Gs. I guess if I'd been on the iPhone for the last 18 months or so, I'd love the format, too. Since I've been on Android for the last 15 months, I'm quite pleased with the format, myself, and would just as easily take issue with the iPhone.

It boils down to what works for you. iPhone is not for me, just as Android is not for you.

Look into jailbreaking it. I haven't done so; but I think it can be done.

Unless you plan on using a 3rd party app tethering is the same price for the same amount on Android.

A few solutions:

1) Act you wage.

2) Go to Sprint.

3) Find yourself a clean Verizon MiFi off eBay and activate it no-contract so you can get the $10/GB rate all day long.

If you go back to your Android, expect this to happen to you:
