You can typically upgrade 4 months early. This means that if you have a date come up in January or February, you got your last phone in june or july. Specifically June/July 2009.

Most new phones back then came out for the back to school rush (august/september) or for Black friday (october/November) It's only recently that they had major device releases in the middle of the year.

Technically people can hold their upgrade, or get phones well after they're out, but the type of customer who buys a phone on LAUNCH DAY isn't that type of customer.

My spare line qualifies for an upgrade (11/22). Do you think anything exciting will be coming out around that time?

That line's way too far out to judge. But I'm guessing yes. They always want to have a big launch for the holidays.

This past year it was the Droid2 global and Droidpro.

I'm done with Motorola! I am open to LG, Samsung, and HTC.

A lot can happen between now and the end of November. I will base whether I upgrade or not on how happy I am with my LG Ally.

In my opinion, you should be done with Samsung too. Not a lot of experience with Apple, but of all the other major manufacturers, my experience with HTC has been far more consistent and superior with hardware and software. Samsung continues to let me down.

I don't think ATT is doomed, mainly because they started restructuring to become less dependent on the fruit months ago, but their rapid growth is over unless they come up with some new "must have phone/feature"

I like AT&T's conference call feature.

That's not really a feature of ATT, that's a feature of GSM (much like talk and text)

Whatever, kid. If the only way Android can survive is by me degrading a competitor then it will and should die. These trolls (on both sides) are downright irritating with their incessant blasting of the other. It is idiotic and inexcusable. If Android platform is to live then let it do so on its own merit.

So is it fair to say that (having owned it for 5 months) the iPhone 4 hasn't gotten the attention from apple it needs? I sit in a wifi area for 80% of my week on average and still the phone has way too much lag and unless i want versatility in compatibility [accessories] I honestly couldnt see myself dealing with Apple again. In my opinion, Apple needs to work to improve the product and not sacrifice function for form. The Android platforms have issues as well but I feel that the manufacturers are trying to improve it and take suggestions, not just make the phone a eye candy device.

that iPhone grew stagnant on AT&T's network. It didn't have to be creative or inventive because they had no phone to give it competition on AT&T. Verizon had to build a competition on the back of Android. Now, iPhone has moved to a market that doesn't NEED it because it doesn't offer as much in comparision to Android phones. Now, before the iPhone iPhans get crazy, what I mean by that is this. If I want more than 16GB of storage, I can get and Android and buy an microSD. With iPhone I have to buy a whole new phone. If I want a physical keyboard, I can buy an Android phone with a keyboard. There isn't an iPhone with a keyboard. There are more options when buying an Android phone. Android is a good platform. It's not surviving on life support like Symbian. It's not going to survive because it's being propped up artificially by non-iPhone carriers. It's going to survive because it's a fabulous product that many people like. The only way that will change is if Apple out innovates them and they fail to adapt. Google is evolving fast enough to stay competitive- unlike WinMo, Symbian and RIM.

My point is only that the lack of a retail frenzy is real evidence that people are not leaving Android in droves just because Apple decided to make a CDMA...
