When i first downloaded the update the phone was working alot smoother and faster and now lately its been working about as slow as it was when i first got the device. But does it have to do with the amount of apps i have on it or something else that is messed up???

Did you previously have a task killer app loaded on the device?

It's been my experience that a software update typically needs a battery pull after it turns back on. Though eventually, a factory reset and restoration of data will fix most long-term speed issues.

If you've removed the Task Killer, factory reset the phone. If you haven't removed the task killer, I'd remove it then factory reset your phone. It's the best way to be rid of it. The task killer manages your applications to the point of causing big slow downs and occasional forced closes. Since the Ally is on 2.2 now, you've got Google's most advanced internal task management running anyway.

Time and time again I've dealt with the slowdown. It even happened on my own phones, before I fixed it. The forced closes were worse, even basic features were closing.

The built-in app management is subtle and automated, not as apparent as a task killer app. But highly effective.

Factory reset will eliminate any management settings that might be left over from when you were running a task killer. Just because you removed the app doesn't guarantee it's effects were also removed.

If nothing else, a factory reset will bring your phone to the same state it was when brand new, just on 2.2 software instead of what you had before. You can restore data and reinstall apps. Your memory will be optimized, and your phone will run at near-...

Wow thats awesome how you know all of this lol! I was thinking about getting the iPhone to get rid of the Slow Processing issues with this device but after what you just said. Sounds like its really worth it.

One last off topic question, have you ever had Virgin Mobile service? I was thinking about them because of the cheap cost with them..

Well, I've been in the business a long time. And along with Menno, I operate PhoneCan.com, where we address questions like this.

Keep in mind, part of the issue with the Ally isn't just software, apps, and the operating system - the phone was designed as a starter model. It has a 600MHz processor and minimal memory, which is on the lower end of the Android spectrum. The Droid, the DroidX, the Incredible all have 800 MHz or higher and about double the memory, and as such will always perform differently (even though they, too, can get bogged down). The Ally isn't a bad phone for most people, but the people who need the most speed would have the most trouble with it (and something like the Samsung Continuum).

I was helping someone rel...

Oh i see, well i had a bit of interest in the Samsung Intercept which seems like a cool phone actually. Question im not paying too bad right now which is 66 a month with my current droid plan with just unlimited text to verzon (use GV for Out of Network Text) and unlimited Data. Im thinking about the 60 a month for unlimited everything because my dad is on Verizon network. Is it worth it eventually you think? I mean i dont need alot of minutes because i hardly talk on the phone but i talk to my dad alot who is on Verizon. Although him and i can text each other for that free app i said the GV.

Do you see anything wrong with the Intercept?

It's about the same specs as the Optimus V or the Ally, but with the Samsung name. I wouldn't expect it to get upgraded to 2.2 OS any time soon (or at all, with Samsung's reputation for upgrading Android).

Contacts are saved to your Google account. So as long as you log back into your gmail account they'll sync.

Factory reset just means you'll have to redownload apps and set up syncing with your accounts again.

There isn't one- because it's pointless on the new O/S.

Don't look at your task manager. Don't look at your "running apps" in the settings menu.

It's irrelevant. I've been running 2.1 on my Fascinate for 4 months. I've never used a task killer and I've looked at the "running applications" three times, I think.

I still get 18 - 20 hours out of my battery, as long as I keep the display brightness as low as practical.
