Big Brother Is Watching - Beware

vzwinagent

But why do I care if they send my phone ID, zip code, gender, or age? That doesn't affect me and doesn't give them the slightest idea who I am.

And this matters how?

Statistics like this tell you next to nothing about individuals.

Some people especially the avg consumer does not know the type of good or bad that can be done with this type of information. You would be surprised. 😎

Big Brother entails your government... in this case it's "Big Business" that is watching you.

I don't know, after the last two years of recession and bailout, the two might be one and the same now. 😉

Took my son to VZW corp store to price the Droid X at full retail. He wants for Christmas and was giving me half of the price. No upgrades at this time. Rep says "running a promotion. Put another line on your account, get him the X, put an old phone on his existing line and we will waive the $10 fee for the life of the 2 yr contract." Does this sound legit?? I've been scratching my head...

Some what.. There is a promotion that "smartphones talk for free" where new lines of service that are smartphones get a 9.99 credit each month (the price of the added line).

Now this being said, this is kind of a shady tactic though, because if no one is using the exsisting line it creates what is known as a ghost line. Verizon checks for these periodicly and will penalize you if you have one. If you do go this route, make sure you have someone that can use the existing line.

Penalize you for an unused line? I've NEVER seen that in all my years. How would they penalize you?

what ive been told is they look for ghost lines and charge the etf. I dunno, Its what a manager has told me before (and a different manager tells me all the time)

I see way to many lines that have been dead for a year or more to believe that we do that.

Verizon will not penalize a customer. They SHOULD fire that rep though. The existing line is sure to churn as soon as the contract is up. I would call that commission fraud.

It's a switch trick.

If I remember correctly, your son took your Eris, right? If that's true, then that means that unless you buy accessories, the entire sale is commissionless for a sales rep, hence their "brilliant" workaround. Add a third line and switch phones! That way I get a new activation on a two year contract (commission and sales metric recognition), $30 data feature (commission and metric credit), and possibly some accessories (commission and metric) because I obviously just saved you a ton of money by not buying full retail. They tack on the promo for new smartphone secondary lines, which gives you a monthly $10 credit on that line.

If you just bought the phone full retail, there's no contract (no commission or sales...

Bottom line he should tell that rep to pound sand. I feel slimy just reading about that rep.

I'm thinking my kid can just wait until March when I have a legitimate upgrade and then get it (or whatever else exists at that time). Thanks everyone. Too good to be true is always too good to be true...

Full retail or three months. If I were trying to avoid the contract, I'd go full retail. If you can wait until March, and are ok with a contract, then I'd wait for that.

I can't send you a message privately, or I wouldn't be asking this here. Do you mind if I use your question in on my pet project?

Sorry, I try to keep these kinds of things off the forum.
