Looking for a good *basic* phone....

So I have my Startac, which is great, but it's a little dated. I'm eligible for a free phone upgrade, but none of the phones really strike my fancy. About 6 months ago I tried the LG VX2000 - what a piece of junk phone that was. I thought about the LG VX3100, but since it's digital only, I'm concerned about coverage in fringe areas (I live about 30 miles north of NYC) other than that it looks like a decent phone. I was going to go with the LG VX10, but it's since been discontinued. I don't need color, or a camera, I just want a basic *phone*. Any recommendations? The selection is pretty thin, and I don't know if there are any plans for non-color phones to come out anytime soon :/

Get a color screen phone.. you might as well.. Best Verizon phone for just basic needs would probably be the New Nokia 3589i only $49.99 with a 2 yr contract, and if you getting the New Every 2 discount, You get it for free, otherwise it's $49.99 if you renew the contract for 2 yrs.

It's a pretty basic phone, just the stnadard VZW features. no camera, but it does have a color screen, and it CHEAP in price.

Yeah I saw that phone - it's hideous!!! I prefer a flip phone. I thought about the Samsung SCHA310, but it got so many bad reviews I figured I'd pass on it.

There is a 14 day return policy.. try out the a310, if it doesn't meet your standards, then return it for a different model..

Yeah that's true, I had the LG VX2000 and returned it right away, it was horrible. Since it seems like you work for Verizon Wireless, do you know if there are any plans for a non-color basic flip phone to come out anytime soon? Or the LG-VX10 to come back? I missed out on that one by like one week.

VX10 and VX3100 can still be ordered from the website. If you are eligable to upgrade you handset with a contract renewal follow this instructions:

Verizon Wireless customers can upgrade to a new digital phone at any time.

And, if you qualify for our New Every Two program, you're eligible for a new digital phone up to a $100 value - free! Or you can get a $100 credit toward the purchase of a new phone.

Here's what you need to do: Log in to My Account. Select the Mobile Phone tab, then the Upgrade Phone option.

As far as flip style phones, the only ones I see coming soon is the Samsung SCH-a610 Which is a camera phone in the same ...

ever consider the Audiovox 8600 - a bit fancy perhaps for your taste, but be aware that the days of the tri-mode are numbered.

Although the 8600 offers many bells and whistles, the size and features may grow on you.

...just a thought - Big Poppa is right, take advantage of the 15 day no worry guarantee! 🙄

Thanks for all the replies guys...The LG-VX10 is not available as an upgrade for me from the verizon web site (but the VX3100 is) My only concern about the VX3100 (and the reason I have not gotten it yet) is the lack of analog mode. Where I live I get mostly digital service, but every now and then am in an area where it's analog only. I do like the look of the 3100, esp. the black model, the fact that it has no caller ID on the outside doesn't bother me, and neither does my startac. I think what I might do, is that my wife needs a new phone, but she is not eligible for a free upgrade, so I'll get my free upgrade for a phone which she likes, then transfer that phone to her account, and re-activate my trusty StarTac 🙂

Go with Nokia 3589i. Is has perhaps the best RF (comparable or even better than StarTac) and is a tri-mode phone.

Another good tri-mode phone is LG VX4400.

If you want an all-digital phone, go with Samsung a530 or LG VX6000. Both are very good phones, even if you dont want the camera or color screen. Their voice quality and signal strength are excellent, but they both are all digital phones (no analog). The reception of LG 3100 is not comparable to that of VX6000 or Samsung a530.

For a good basic phone the kyocera 2325 is excellent.. i have customers living in outlying rural analog areas, & this trimode 2325 model has been great. and its only $19.99 with our 2 yr agreements.

I'll tell you I'm not a big fan of the Kyocera phones. My wife had one (Don't recall the model #) and it wasn't so great. She just upgraded to the LG VX3100 on Friday, I gotta say, it's way smaller than my Startac! So far she likes it, but she hasn't used it so much. I prefer the flip phones, and I think the new Nokia is pretty ugly, despite the redeeming qualities it might have....

are u sure its not the 720? radio shacks warranty policy may be different as well. check into that. Verizon offers a 1 year warranty.. Ours would only end up being a $30 difference after the rebate
