Wondering about Insurance

I was kinda curious what you guys think, that i was trying to reactivate my LG Touch phone because a new software update came out for it and when i went to activate it online last night it said the insurance would be voided off. But i haven't lost or gotten a phone wet in over 3 years. At this point should i worry about it? Because i only have 14 months left of my contract...

only 14 months means you haven't had the phone for even a year yet man. You JUST signed it.

And yes, if you take a device with insurance off that line and swap it out for another phone, you can't re-add insurance to that phone.

Once a phone is taken off the line that you activated it on, as far as Asurion is concerned, they cannot verify what happened to that phone in the meantime so they will not insure it. The device is considered "Customer Provided equipment" which means there is no warranty, and no insurance options available.

I know i just signed my contract. The difference in this case is the LG Touch was bought THRU verizon at the time when i had gotten the device, i went to the Samsung Rogue because of all the problems the Touch was giving me now i found out the Software update for the Touch fixes all the issues i had with it. Thats the only difference, i still bought the Touch with Verizon though. Thats all i was saying.

It doesn't matter where you bought it.

Once the phone is taken off an account it is considered "Customer provided equipment" so you can't insure it and there is no warranty for the device.

The ONLY exception to this is if you switched the phone to another line on your account and paid for insurance on it when it was on that line. But once a phone is "deactivated" it's as is, no warranty and no insurance options.

OK i see what your saying, but my question was at this point would you care so much? Because i am planning on leaving Verizon when my contract is up with them.

It doesn't matter if I care or not. For the record I don't, and I told you as much before. In fect, I suggested you just pay your ETF and leave now. But that's not why I responded.

I'm explaining to you how the system works. You asked if you could insure the phone, I told you why you couldn't and why the system wouldn't let you.

OK you suggest i pay ALOT of money just to leave them when i have a little time left on my contract. That sounds stupid and ok i appreciate your response.

I know how the system works and just asking what was the right route to go.

2nd i don't have the money to leave and go to another carrier, have to pay ETF then pay my last month off and along with my new service at wherever i go, thats gonna run me about 500 something total just to leave and start a new service which sounds stupid.

Also i never sold my Touch phone, ive always had it on me in case another update came out. Which it did.

It doesn't matter if you've always held it. You CANNOT insure it no matter how many excuses you bring up. So the best route to take is to make sure the insurance is removed because if for whatever reason the system doesn't kick it off automatically if you go to make a claim you'll be denied anyway so you're giving them money for no reason. (and no, you CANNOT argue yourself out of this one with asurion. They don't care if you threaten to leave verizon because they insure phones for every company anyway)

If I was going to cancel with Verizon, it would be to go to Tmobile or Sprint and both offer a lower monthly bill so my ETF would EASILY be made up for in the 14 months I would have remaining on my contract if I was in your case.

Oh i see, i know it didn't matter where i got it. I didn't care about that, just wondering if the insurance matters so much at this point. But anyway

The ETF thing you put up is that only an example? Because a Verizon rep told me back in June it would be 110 to cancel my contract out with Verizon. Just wondering, i was thinking about either Sprint or AT&T. Im thinking about going where my dad will go which he is thinking AT&T.

well then your ETF is lower than I thought it was. Your ETF starts at 175 and goes down $5 a month.
