General question about putting movies on a phone.

I'm a total noob when it comes to this so please bear with me. Ya know how when you buy a movie on Blu-Ray and you get the tripple set that includes the Blu-ray disc, a regular DVD, and a digital copy also? How hard is it to put the digital copy on a phone like the Droid X? I've never tried it.

Nope. That's why I'm getting a 4.3" screen.

Look, if you don't have anything productive to contribute, please just don't post. kthanks

The digital copies you get with DVD's are typically locked so they ONLY work with an iphone as far as mobile devices go.

You'd need to break the DRM to put it on your device.

Seriously? Well that sucks. I was hoping I had a way to legally transfer and watch movies that I already own.

I found a program for free on line called magic DVD ripper. it can copy any DVD into the same format as the iphone uses. you get like 7 free rips before you have to pay for it. it works very well for me. hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. You say it puts it into the same format that the iphone uses. I don't know if the Android phones use that format. Any idea?

as long as it's converting them to mpeg-4 with h.264 codec, you should be fine (most do this)

Free solutions: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Best/free- dvd-to-3gp.html

Personally, I use ImTOO software (well worth the buy): http://www.imtoo.com/dvd-to-3gp-converter.htm l

Take the DVD that came with your set, put it in your computer, rip it to 3gp format...

There are other free solutions out there... I used to use one that had an extremely bizarre name, I forget... it was slow, but worked very nicely.

If you use a solution that doesn't have preloaded formats/sizes/etc. you can easily search for the proper resolution, etc. online based on your phone model.

I've been doing this with movies ever since I discovered the (temporarily down) site videos4blackberry.info ... I found out the site used ImTOO software so I picked ...

Yea... and, the best part is you can lower the quality down since your screen size is smaller... Transformers takes up ~800 MB on high quality (extremely superb) and ~350 MB on medium quality (I can't tell the difference much). Same goes with sound, you can reduce down the size of the video if you aren't an audiophile (44,400 Khz is sufficient).

Grab a nice 8-16 gb MicroSD and you have room for about 16-38 movies 🙂

Or, you can mix and match... I have 42 TV shows, 3 movies, 62 full CDs on my 16 GB which is only HALF FULL! 🙂

Do NOT be afraid to reduce down the size of the file, you will probably not notice a difference...

Oh, and don't rip subtitles into it unless you really have to have them because you can't turn them on/off.

I took some mp4 files recorded by a friend of mine and put them on my BB under 3GP, but that's as far as I've gone.

I used a stripping-down software called "Complete Mobile Media Center" to rip it all down to 480x360 and 7 frames per second and I can't tell the difference between that and HD recordings (on the 3" screen).

But I've never cared enough to try and get copyrighted stuff on my mobile. Sounds like a question for jayshmay.

It's called "Complete Mobile Media Converter" not complete mobile media center. Sorry for the typo.

I guess I'll have to look around at software. I'd really like to find a legal way to put on a few that I already own.
I doubt I'll be loading a ton of movies on my phone, but it might be nice two have a few for when I get stranded in an ariport.

Actually I suggest to use 23.96 fps (NTSC standard) and 44,400 for sound quality.

I did run the audio around 44k and I did a test video where the only thing I changed was the frame rate from 7 to 30 fps.

My eyes could not tell the difference between the two, because it was basically a recording of a guy writing on a whiteboard explaining RF propagation equations and stuff like that. If it had been a video of skateboarding in a half-pipe, I probably wouldn't be satisfied with 7 fps.

Anyhow, I had like 4 hours of video to convert and the process went a lot faster at low fps. I'm sure I'll do something different if I ever do higher quality content.

I can see that situation being ok for 7 fps ... but, when you're talking about movies (especially action movies) ...

I've done it a long time ago. But not since I've had my Droid. I had some sort of DVD decrypting software. But it's really not that hard. Just Google "converting DVD to .3GP and see what comes up.

I like watching videos on my Droid, mostly video clips on the Newsy app, 1Cast app, porn (of course). But I'm not really into watching videos that are 90 minutes to 2hrs long on my smartphone.

Would've been nice if Motorola put a kickstand on the X though. Like HTC did with the Evo.

try using Double-Twist. It will make iPod music work on BB's and Droids. I have also used to move .AVI and .WMF and Utube stuff on to my droid. And to the wiseguy since your holding the phone in your hand you can see it.

Ya know what buddy..I personally don't like NASCAR. It doesn't interest me and I think it's a waste of time. But I understand that some people love it. I don't go to NASCAR forums and tell those people how boring I think it is. You must REALLY have nothing better to do with your time.

You need two programs.

http://www.slysoft.com/en/ »
AnyDvd + CloneDVDMobile

AnyDVD removes copy protection. Not sure how well it does with BluRay, but I've yet to have serious issues with DVD's.

CloneDVDMobile rips unprotected content into the format of your choosing - often with quick shortcuts (You can choose from stuff like "AVI", "iPhone", "Zune" etc).

They *ARE* paid programs. cant' remember how much. Got my copies a long time ago and haven't regretted it a moment.

Once ripped... either copy to SSD or transfer via usb. Simple

head over to cnet.com they have a lot of free software. The one I use is actually designed for a psp but worked great. I had a few movies on my storm....nice for the airplane and I had no issue with the protection crap/ Just rip it onto your computer and grab a converter on cnet.... there are dozens.

oh, if you don't have a ripper you can get one there to 😁
