Verizon Wireless Network Extender

Do you use, or have you used Verizon Wireless's Network Extender? If so, would you please share your experience with me.

I am having issues in my basement with voice and am contemplating purchasing this item. None of our VZW devices (Blackberry Bold, Blackberry Tour, LG-Env2, LG5400, etc.) are able to receive voice calls in the basement.

If I do buy the Network Extender, it would be placed in the basement.

Thanks for any and all feedback!

you do realize that no one gets good service in a basement. I mean, you're underground!

do you really think that a cell signal will be able to reach you?

I work in a fallout shelter under ground with 2' thick concrete walls and I get 2 bars without any kind of network extender, so being in a basement doesn't necessarily mean you won't get a cell signal it depends on how close you are to a tower.

Thanks to all for the replies!

As for the basement, this "problem" is relatively new. In other words we have passable service in the basement until recently.

Regarding the cell tower, we are about a mile from VZW's nearest cell site. I have a feeling that they re-calibrated it recently, hence, my problem.

As for plugging directly into DSL, actually, my office is down there which is where the cable modem is, as well as the 4 port wired/wireless router.

I have one and it works great, I went from 0 bars to full reception.

Not sure if it would work for you, because it has to be plugged into your DSL line (wont work via Wi-Fi) AND it has to be near a window to catch GPS signal which is required for it to work.

I have had one since day one. They do help, but the lack of increased data signal hurts a little bit.

The voice quality is ok, there is a huge delay when using the phone and people often say they have trouble hearing me. Im glad I have it, but it still needs some work.

Just a quick update. I did buy the extender and it has made a HUGE improvement in the basement! I do hear the delay and echo that was mentioned in one of the replies. Its bearable, but I agree, it is annoying.

Thanks again to everyone for the feedback and info!

I read an article somewhere that there is a new one coming out that does both voice and data. Is that still coming out?
