Cause of HTC Incredible muffled-sounding earpiece

I got Verizon to finally admit that there is an issue with the earpiece sound quality on the Incredible. From this forum, I have learned that HTC has also admitted the same flaw. Question--Why aren't they working to resolve it???? I have a theory. Verizon tells phone manufacturers to design a phone based on their RIGID specifications. In these specs, I am sure Verizon mentions "and make it so each unit costs no more that xx dollars." So, therefore, HTC must use "cheap parts" to meet Verizon's budget monetary number for the cost to produce each unit.

I tried the Sprint HTC Evo in a corp Sprint store today, and guess what???? This phone's earpiece sounds PERFECT!! What a difference from the Incredible. They are both CDMA phon...

Couldn't be you and some others got defective devices as usually is true with newly released hardware? 😳
Because the one I used in the store sounded great.

I doubt that, since all of the display models I have tried in the corporate stores had the problem, and I have been in 6 corporate stores.

Hey knuckle head, people only get notified of your 1st reply. 😲
So next time a thought goes through your head, wait a few minutes to allow the rest to catch up. Then make ONE post! 😳
And I'm still with the other guy, sounds like there may be a batch of defective units. Exchange it.

Yeah, I thought the exact same thing. I call shenanigans. I have several friends with Incredibles and they are singing its praises. Methinks often the problems lie sometimes with the users...

and I work for VZW. This is the first time I have heard there was any issues with reception on the incredible. I bought me an incredible, but it is still on back order. I sure hope I don't have the same experience that you have had with it.

I realize that there is a slight sacrifice of reception with smartphones, but I thought the Incredible was a totally solid device.

I am sorry you had a negative experience with it.

No problem here. I've had people tell me it sounds better than the Motorola Droid I had before.

The Palm Pre Plus was one of the highest retail phones verizon offered. Look at the build quality there.

Verizon does have pricing guides, but the cost for a higher quality earpiece wouldn't make them go over budget.
