Looks like I'm switching to vzw. At protest mind you. No offense, but I've been an AT&T guy for years. My wife is insisting. Her family doesn't want to pony up for text messaging to other carriers. Either way, I'm switching.

I'm looking at the LG Envy Touch, and the LG Chocolate Touch. I'm neither here nor there on a physical key board as apposed to touch. I was curious how you guys viewed these phones in comparison, and if either have had a warranty stressed track record.

Also, my wife is a state employee. To get a discount, does the account have to be set up in her name?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Switching to Verizon to protest AT&T is a bit ironic. Yes, the account will need to be set up in her name to obtain the discount. The Chocolate Touch is a newer handset. I have a contact with VZW who has one and has no issues, but as a former employee I am out of the loop. The Envy Touch was brand spanking new when I was there and it moved like hotcakes. I know a few people with it and no problems. Someone like epik may have more insight. As to the mandatory messaging plans with AT&T, might I stress that you look before you leap, my friend. Verizon is the king of *Bleep* like this. I daresay AT&T would not have the balls to pull *Bleep* like this if they didn't have Verizon's example to follow. Now, Verizon does not have a messagin...

I think you missunderstood me. I like AT&T. I would stay, but my wifes family all has VZW. They don't want to pay to text outside of the VZW network, so I'm going to come over an pay more to keep their costs down. In the end, it's what makes the wife happy. I was thinking about getting the Flight with AT&T prior to this shift in plans.

I'll have my wife set up the account and port my number over to obtain her discount then.

I'm bummed VZW doesn't offer the data unlimited for $10 on dumb phones like AT&T does. Nothing like paying the same or more for less. ☹️

We'll be setting up text unlimited as well as the 1400 +10 lines unlimited. The phones I like don't offer data optional though. I have a blackberry with AT&T now and bar...

Thanks. I'll probably feel them out, but the review was much appreciated. The Envy is $25.00 less which is always a bonus.

I get in LG Voyagers and Dares all the time that seem to have held up well. Same with enV2, etc. LG seems to make great CDMA products (as opposed to my experience with their GSM items).

Considering they are the same price I would personally go for the enV Touch.

Any thoughts on construction?

d00d they're not just LG they're the same exact phone - the only difference is a physical keyboard.

If you plan on doing a lot of txting get the lg env touch it's basically the old voyager but slightly updated. The physical keyboard is huge..

Lol, I guess not. I argued a bit, but in the end it wasn't worth it. My wife is rather stubborn. Her sister already has text unlimited with VZW, so no change for her. It's just her parents lines. They pay an extra $20 or I do. Oh well. I'll save a dollar on the activation fee.

Does each one of her parents have a phone with the 10 dollar texting package? If so, they are already paying 20 of the 30 for unlimited texting.

I'm not too sure. I know they have unlimited in texting. Is there a family plan price for that or is it all individual? I doubt they have any out of network text other than PPU.

I believe that when I was at Verizon there was a 10 dollar texting package that included 500 text and unlimited in network texting. I think the 10 dollar package was the entry level feature for unlimited in network and each line on the account would need it. They might be already paying 20 dollars for texting where as unlimited family texting is 30. Things may have changed and I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

I'm addressing a little bit of all the posts in the thread, so bear with me.

First, your in-law's texting. If they're each on the $10 text plan ($20 total), they should have unlimited Verizon-to-Verizon texting, AS WELL AS 500 messages (sent or received) for non-Verizon numbers (i.e. AT&T, Sprint, email, whatever). The only way this could be different would be if they have older text plans from 2005 or sooner. The old $9.99 text plan from those days would have been 250 to 500 texts, no pictures included.

In the rare chance they have older text plans, let me cover another possibility. One or both may have old $5 text plans that covered unlimited V-to-V texting, just as the $10 plan above, but with a measly 50 messages for non-Verizo...

It certainly does help. Thanks for the indepth reply. They've been on their account long enough to have the original $5 in text package. I don't recall whether they added it then or later however, so I couldn't say for certain.

I may go that route as well and save $10... I'll have to double check my numbers. I'll probably go with the Envy touch. I'm not sure if my wife wants a new phone yet or not. I just got her a Centro outright about two months ago. 🙂 I traded an LG for it. Gotta love thinkLG.com!

Chocolate Touch: 1 GB onboard storage for music. FM transmitter to play your tunes in the car. All touch with a not-so-great technological implementation. SLOWER rev 0 EVDO antenna, so when you do use the browser, it's not as quick.

EnV Touch: Not a lot of onboard memory, so all you tunes will be on the media card. No FM transmitter for music playback. Technologically superior touchscreen quality, FASTER rev A EVDO chip for browsing or tethering. Has a better camera too, if I remember right. Physical keyboard for those times you just don't want the touch interface. And it's cheaper then the Chocolate, especially with the BOGO. EnV touch is capable of the LG Outlook Sync if you feel the need to sync with your PC calendar/contact lis...
