I will not disclose what is happening, but it is huge. VZW will dominate 1st quarter. Mark it down.

Here we go... Are you sure the other carriers won't match whatever it is as they did with the Unlimited plans?

Carriers will always match.. seriously.. you'll see more companies move to data centric phones.. It's just a question of how fast they'll match, and to what degree.

To what degree is the important part...

*NO* where is it mentioned that AT&T will require data on phones. Yet it *IS* a requirement for the bulk of Verizon phones.

AT&T *ALSO* has not announced any plans to get rid of Dumb-Phone data packages ($19.99/month for data vs $29.99 for smart phones), while VZ will only have the expensive option for dumb phones.

AT&T matched prices for talking/texting... but without the required data... and without changing their data packages... they are clearly the better priced network now.

Hands down.

Kriis

PS If AT&T matches those data plans reqs and price points... then doom on them as well IMO

"Hater..."

Wow! I get called a fanboy of these guys one day and a hater the next. I couldn't be someone who LIVED through the Unlimited campaign enthusiasm as an employee just to see AT&T and T-Mobile match (or beat) it the same day and Sprint drop Simply Everything the next week. Oh no! My response can't be a simple response it HAS to be hate. Oh brother.

I'm serious. I don't know why I keep coming back to PS because it doesn't matter what a carrier does, someone will have something to say. No one is just "Wow, VZW changed everything by being the first national carrier to roll out Unlimited calling plans nationwide." Instead you get, "yeah, but other carriers immediately did changes IN RESPONSE." Geeze...a hopeless forum.

Ok, so the BEST network nationwide (all reporting agencies agree) comes out with some industry changing plans. So, best network, FINALLY competitive plans (really awesome...wait and see), and the best customer service. What else would someone want?

Oh...I forgot, people also want all phones free. All phones have all data plans included at no additional charge...

Sorry. I'm not a cheerleader. Get over yourself. What I AM is a seven year customer so I spend a lot of time here. My comment was not negative. I merely questioned whether whatever it IS is not something that can be copied by the competition. If you haven't noticed, AT&T has copied nearly everthing Verizon does. Friends and Family (A-List) Unlimited, and on and on. Stan Sigman admitted his unabashed admiration for VZW years ago and the next thing I saw was their rate plans change to mirror Verizon's. I don't know what these new deals are but I question whether the competition cannot just copy it.

First network with affordable unlimited plans? See T-Mobiles recent plans and advertisements. This is in response to those. Leader of the pack my arse...

Free phones = contract.
Not free phones = prepaid.

You can't get free phones at "any time" - there are tons of limits.

The biggest problem with this change, hands down, is the data plan changes. THAT is what is gonna make me sell more AT&T and Sprint... hands down.

Largest, Most Expensive Network... vs Very capable networks that will cost $50 a month or more *LESS* because of not required or better data pacakges on a family plan.

So, it's great that unlimited is going down in price (although not exactly revolutionary since it's been cheaper at least on some other carriers for a while now).

It's good too that some additional pre-paid options are being offered (although also not revolutionary and more of a response to many other pre-paid options that have been available through other carriers for some time now).

However, and this is the biggest thing really for a lot of people, Connect and Premium plans are going away and many more regular feature phones are now going to require data--so more people will need to pay for data and the better pricing options for that that Connect and Premium plans offered are no longer there. So, really, VZW is getting more people ...

I can see them doing away with the premium plans.. Honestly there never seemed to be an interest in them for most customers.

The drop of the connect plan really confuses me though.. that thing was cake to upsell people too... unless they plan on dumping all current 3g phones and replacing them with something worth that data.. seriously.. paying 30 a month to update facebook on an env3?

At the moment they are cheaper than AT&T but I don't expect that to last. AT&T will need to respond by matching or beating VZWs Unlimited offerings and now thanks to the leak they can be ready the day of launch just like February 2008.

No..

Verizon Unlimited everything smartphone:
$120

ATT unlimited everything smartphone:
$150
(currently)

Yes,it is still more expensive than sprint/Tmobile.

Actually,I think that the prepaid plans are actually a much better value for people who don't plan on web browsing.. seriously, 45 a month (taxes and all included) for 450 anytime, unlimited nights, weekends, and verizon to verizon... maybe they are trying to say contracts are only for data?

I still think something else is happening.. current info seems incomplete

Now? Verizon has never been the discount carrier. AT&T aligned their plans to match Verizon (I know but they have rollover AT&T-philes) and I expect that they will lower their Unlimited Options to match VZW in a few days.
