Good News in Rockford IL

Good news for the people in Rockford IL. The ATT store closed in the mall due to lack of sale. Yet there are over 5 Verizons stores that stay in business. The people have spoken ATT does not work in the MIDWEST.

hhmmm...one att store closing in one city closing does not speak for the midwest. our verizon store closed a couple months ago and i live in ohio. i have had att and now have verizon storm. i alway run between 1 and 2 bars of service on my storm and 4 to 5 bars on my old att curve. plus the edge was faster then verizons 3g.

I can't speak for the entire midwest, but in Rockford AT&T struggles. As the manager of the Verizon indirect that was near the AT&T store at the mall, I can't help but smile a bit when they left. 😁

Yea I have tried it often and I am on my second storm cause of the issue. I use to sell verizon so I am pretty familiar with all the quick fixes like *228.

*228 is NOT a quick fix. It's a preferred roaming list. and 1 to 2 bars is plenty enough to make a CDMA call.

I know what it is, but are you denying that it is quick? And I didnt say I was dropping calls. My point was, that in my area which is a major metropolitan area, I get more bars with ATT. I like both ATT and Verizon, you cant go wrong with eathier one. I go back and forth depending on the phone that I want to use and my next phone will probably be the droid.

I just got the Droid, and my data speeds are MUCH faster then they were on my Storm. I hate BlackBerry browsers. You will be much happier with the Droid.

it's quick, true, but not normally a "fix." Most people have this impression that if they are getting spotty signal, dialing *228 will get them more signal. This process downloads system id's- not tower by tower, but rather CGSA by CGSA. So for example, Pittsburgh has a SID of 32. If they put a new tower up, I will already have access to it, I do not need to do *228 to get access, because that tower is already broadcasting SID 32. Again though, the way CDMA works is that it will hand off, and be connected on up to 3 towers at a time. Just because you're getting 1 bar of signal, and your ATT phone is getting 4, does not mean you're going to have better call quality with either. 1-2 bars is plenty enough to carry a high quality call.

Agreed.

1-2 bars on phone A might actually be better than 4-5 bars on phone B. It all boils down to what the actual call sounds like. Hell, I remember having a crystal clear call on my Samsung a950 with ZERO bars for about 15 minutes before it finally dropped the call.

The at&t store closed it doors inside the mall and turned a indirect store outside the mall into a direct store. I don't use at&t but the coverage had nothing to do with at&t going out of business. the mall where that store was located has been suffering ever since the economy took a turn for the worse.

AT&T closed a direct store in my local mall a few years back. There's an indirect that sells AT&T in the same mall, and has sone well. While my local mall is doing ok, they have a direct store a few blocks from the mall.

Verizon has a direct kiosk in the same mall that does well, and has an indirect in the same mall. So far, it's still in business, while another Verizon indirect c...

The mall has not been slow. Every other cellphone kiosk has been putting up better numbers in Cherryvale mall. AT&T is just inferior in this area. Not everywhere, but in this area. Coverage has a lot to do with it. AT&T has dead spots all over Winnebago County. This is just a case of Verizon and USCC having better coverage in a certain area.

AT&T bought both agent locations in town to try and absorb some of sales they were losing to them. They are going to save a bunch of money by moving out of the mall, but until they do something about the spotty coverage here, they are fighting a losing batle and Big Red will continue to come out on top.

at&t has a minimum activation threshhold to keep stores open. When I used to work in the malls managing an indirect at&t store we had an at&t corporate store literally two doors down. They shut down and we broke all store records over the next few months finishing december with 413 activations. So just because they are shutting down doesn't mean they are struggling as a whole.

I sometimes wish my company would shut slower stores down to boost other stores sales. It would make my life a lot better.
