First, anyone who replies to this thread, please be objective and provide info about various options, those from within Verizon and thru 3rd party companies.

I realize this forum is like Ivory Soap, where 99 and 44/100's of the people who participate are Verizon Wireless employees or affiliated in some way, shape or form. I ask you to please step back from towing the company line, and provide info about the best options available to consumers.

I'm interested in insurance options for a range of phones. For my family I need to replace their LG Env's and I'm thinking of getting either the Samsung Rogue or LG Env Touch (as of 11/8/09 both of which now require data plan, total BS IMO) since these phones are very similar to their current Env...

From what I understand, it may be possible for them to have them covered under other types of insurance that they already have. A lot of customers seem to tell me that they'd already be covered under their homeowner's insurance, for instance. Renter's insurance or even auto insurance may already cover it, as well. Just have them inquiring with the respective companies whom they already have policies with.

I'm sure the homeowner's/renter's insurance has a deductible as well...usually higher than $50-$80...

The $8 a month is for the TEC which is extended warranty as well. The insurance is only $6 a line for those phones. Also, the deductible is $89.

This depends on where you live, but my company offers a protection plan that goes like this:

Up front fee of: 99.99 (for the devices you listed, for flip phones it is cheaper)

This will cover you for two years, or until something happens to the device.

Should something happen to the device, you get a brand new replacement for $40. Because it is a new phone, it is a one time replacement for this cost, however, the protection can be repurchased on the device.

If you are careful with your phone but the battery starts to go out, you can get a battery for $15 instead of the 50+ it would be retail. you can do this twice.

Yes, it is more money up front, but 100 is a lot cheaper than 8 a month, and 40 for a new phone is a lot bett...

we have stores in pa, NY, and MD so far, none in jersey yet though, but my store isn't far.

the companies website is ecellularconnection.com (they kinda need to update it, I know). We don't have an online explanation of the protection plan yet, but if you want, you can PM me and I can answer any questions you have about it, or email you a hardcopy of the form.

I havent really looked into other insurance options(I dont insure my phones), but keep in mind the cost of the phones you are getting (not the contract price, but the real price). The new policy with Asurion is due to the higher cost of the high end phones these days.

For the Rogue and the Env touch, if you dont want the data plans you probably dont really need those phones. I would suggested going with the Env 3 instead. Part of the point in the touch and the rogue are their higher resolution screens and improved processors and browsers, if you arent using them for some sort of data based service (like web browsing) those features arent needed.

For the insurance options the 7.99 option is for insurance plus extended warranty, the insu...

I know you can get personal assett insurance through State Farm on some high end phones. I have my Storm 2 and my wifes IPhone on a plan there. It was about $50 a year with no deductable.
