Will backup assistant be available on the Droid?
Many stores across the country have lost their phonebook transfer devices, so I WOULD CALL THE STORE AND CHECK FIRST. Save yourself the surprise hassle.
If you have a Google account, you have automatic backup. Your Google phone will back itself up to your Google account automatically - no need for cables and software. Remember, you can get a Google app on your computer to sync Google with Outlook, too.
If you don't have a Google account, sign up for one now before buying an Android phone. Your set up will be much easier.
My Google Voice account is the exact same thing as my Gmail account. Unless you set yours up differently, yours should be the same.
Do I read your post correctly - is there an app that will let you sync Outlook contacts to Google contacts? I found and downloaded the app that will keep my Outlook calendar synced w/Google, but cannot find anything like that for Contacts. I have had to export my Outlook contacts to a Windows CSV file and upload that to Google. The only reference I can find for a program to sync Contacts automatically is an enterprise-level program that our IT guy would have to load on the server - and that's not going to happen. Is there any app that would let me plug an Android phone directly into my PC and sync Contacts & Calendar w/Outlook? That would solve my problem.
Thanks.

On the bottom right it gives you instructions to transfer to the previously specified devices.
only if you currently have a vzw NON-pda/smartphone with backup assistant installed,
AND
your are switching to a pda/blackberry/droid
This saves me from all the trouble.

Your contacts will be backed up to your google account automatically, and you can also save them as an ecard on your SD card.
backup assistant most likely won't be available on this phone as it's not on other smart phones.
