Will it be possible to update the Droid to newer Android versions?

Say Android Version 2.5 or 3.0 comes out in 6 months or so. How would I update the phone? Why would I not want to do this? Does a update lose the content in the phone? Contacts etc.

Android updates are pushed to the phone and your data will be safe while updating.

This phone will be upgradeable
