I would not buy an iphone either. Apple is as bad as Verizon in controlling the user experience. Nokia N series is my addiction.
At the request of my family we almost switched from VZW (BB) to AT&T for iPhone's.
The switch was a natural as we use MAC's, plus, the available apps were really attractive, not to mention some that my colleagues are working on.
I won't get into the whole AT&T vs VZW thing as I am a VZW love, but, I will throw this in.
As I was about to make the switch, something kept gnawing at me. I pulled three months worth of bills and learned that between "in" thing and the "10 friends and family" deal, we average about 3,600 of those minutes alone.
I had everyone write down how many non VZW people they call on a REGULAR basis. The list was really small. Bottom line, for me to switch, I would ...

Its a toy to me. A fun gadget, In fact I liked that part of it and bought the Ipod touch. BUt as a phone its reception was no where near the Nokia. No wireless syncing, No multi tasking, Everything about the phone seemed toyish right sown to the VU meter and photo of the studio mike for audio recording..
Then add 3X the data cost and I save $460 buy using the N97 instead which will pay for the next phone. I had not had a contract for years with ATT but $600 turned into $1400......worth two years with a car...

I'll go with Joe on this one, if you want the iphone feel, the ipod touch will do most of what you want it to. It is a neat toy, but the phone part of it is lacking.
Here's to having an Android phone available by Christmas.

I use an Ipod touch.. Until my contract is up I have just a basic EnV2 phone. It's great as a phone, but the Touch is really nice to have as a PDA. You can set it up to sync via wifi with Google (calender, contacts, etc)

Agrees.Although I am a Nokia fan-boy I will take a long look at Android in a couple years.. By then it should be entrenched and applications should be available. I am an OPEN fan buy as well Open networks, open phones, I am willing to put up with ...

I think once you get to LTE, hopefully companies will start finding it profitable to make "unlocked" phones that work with the network.
Not like it would happen, but I'm waiting for a carrier to release a data only phone that uses GoogleVoice/VOIP for calls. And sadly, even if they even did everything right and verizon launched the phone, too many people would say it was crippled without reading the specs... such is the interwebs.

I think it will open up a lot with LTE. Verizon's done a lot lately to open up the network. Opening GPS, putting wifi on more devices, etc. They still have a long way to go, but at least they are moving in the right direction.

Nokias have SIP for VIOP calls...

Oooh I wonder what sort of specs the Nokia N99 will have. Oooh do I wonder.
I'm really looking forward to when cellphones will be able to charge faster. That's what I'm looking forward to!
How many lines do you have?
No WMA,OGG,Vorbis or AVI files allowed...No flash on websites or the option. NO software allowed that is not available through iTunes....which is way DRM infected...Can't even change the battery out.. and I will tell you guys I got about 4 hours before I had to start rationing my use....Never had a phone I needed to worry about getting through a day of use.
