A few bad apples

are ruining VZW for me. ๐Ÿ˜ข
This is the 2nd phone I've bought off Ebay for VZW that I can't use. ๐Ÿ˜ก
1st one the guy said it was free and clear. When I tried to activate it VZW told me it was reported stolen. The seller said he picked it up from a garage sale, he refunded my $$.
2nd one was from a power seller with 100% feedback and I specifically asked if the phone was free and clear. Get the phone and it comes up as still active on some one else's account. Currently trying to get a replacement or refund.
๐Ÿ˜ก I never had this problem with GSM phones. ๐Ÿ˜ก

So you are buying phones from a non-authorized reseller and it's ruining verizon for you?

You don't have the issue with GSM because it is their SIM card that is linked to the network. While it is easier to switch between phones with GSM, it's also a lot easier to have your phone stolen because of it.

Is there a reason you don't buy one in a store?

Don't get high & mighty dude. I'm not reinventing the wheel here. ๐Ÿ˜•

Complaining about shady individuals selling you phones online is one thing. But verizon has no control over these sales, or over the phones themselves.

It's really easy to "unlock" a phone. The account holder needs to remove it from his account. This is accomplished either by saying that the phone was found (and thus no longer lost/stolen) or to put a new phone on that number (upgrading it). If whoever you are buying the phone from isn't doing this, that that is their fault, not verizons. Those same safety measures keep someone from stealing your phone and putting it on their plan without your permission.

I'm not trying to get all high and mighty, I'm just saying that this shouldn't ruin your experience with the company because it...

most of those issues come from locked accounts where they were turned off because of non pay and phone gets locked on there till the account is cleared.

As far as ebay goes, I never buy a phone that is not being sold by someone who has sold phones in the past.

seems like he is a reputable dealer... have you contacted him to see what's up? He should be able to either fix the issue or at least accept the phone back.

It's like saying you hate walmart because some guy keeps throwing walmart bags at you whenever you leave your house.

I totally hate that guy too. I think he doubles as the Walmart greeter. ๐Ÿคฃ

Even with this headache I'd go back to TMO before I'd give ATT a second chance.
That's if I were to change carriers, VZW still = #1. ๐Ÿ˜‰

This is a ridiculous post, because its all YOUR fault, not the sellers. Protect yourself, dont expect someone to do it for you.

If you buy use phones sight unseen, you should ask for the ESN to verify with verizon before any money exchanges hands. If the seller will not provide it, then I would not purchase the phone.

I prefer to buy used phones locally, off craigslist. When I meet the person I call vzw customer service and verify the ESN right there in front of them. And yes, I have caught a couple of people trying to sell phones that could not be activated.

Your issue has NOTHING to do with vzw, and EVERYTHING to do with your complete and utter ignorance in buying used phones. Educate yourself, and take the necessary steps in...

I read through this entire thread hoping someone would educate this guy on how it should be done. Good job. To the original poster, before you bid on a phone simply message the seller and request the ESN/MEID. Once you receive it, call VZW and ask if the ESN/MEID is okay to be activated. If the phone is on the lost/stolen list or non-pay disconnect list they will identify it as such and advise you not to buy.

I've been buying both Sprint & VZW phones off Ebay for awhile. I'm well aware of all the pit falls.
I was just venting, I know it's not VZW's fault.
It just seemed ironic...2 in a row! Just not my day I guess. ๐Ÿ‘€
