Alltel officially merges with Verizon on July 11th in my area which is conveniently 2 days before the speculated release of the Blackberry Tour. I currently have a BB 8830 on Alltel with a SmartChoice plan on my line of a 4- person family plan. Will my plan or how much I am charged be altered when I buy a Verizon device? Keep in mind that the other three lines are under contract and will not be upgrading.

I am kinda wondering the same thing My contract is up now ! Alltel becomes VZW on July 11 in NC where I live and I want the tour! Will they make us change to a vzw plan or are we grandfathered in? My wife has a phone which is still under a contract till dec of 2010 ! Will they make us both change to a vzw plan?

The only reason that you would have to change is if you buy a new phone that bills per MB, rather than airtime, for data usage.

If you're under contract, expect business as usual in almost all situations.

On July 11th or after, you can switch all your lines to a Verizon plan and phone and not pay a ETF. To get the Tour, you will need to buy it out or switch to a Verizon plan. You won't be allowed to upgrade to a new phone and keep your Alltel plan. Verizon is allowing you to keep your plan and (most) phones tho. If your phone doesn't have e911 on it then you will be given a new phone.
