I just tried registering the BB Storm I purchased last night from a "premium retailer" and the Blackberry internet site said the phone was attached to another account.

What gives??

it's not necessarily used
that other account could have had the wrong ESN

My Curve did the exact same thing (different carrier) and it was because I already had the info set up in my phone. The web site recognized the previous info. Hard to say for sure.

It could have been bought and returned within a day or so. It has to be sold again. As long as it looks brand new, then it is. Verizon doesn't let us send them back, we have to sell them again, and can't take a loss. There really is no reason to though as long as they weren't returned because of a problem.

No worries. Your phone more then likely was not used. (Unless u got it from walmart...lol) but seriously it is a very common problem. All you need to do on your phone is go to. Options--advanced options--host routing table--press the blacberry menu button--choose register now--make sure u get a message in your inbox. Then try to log in again.

^ what he said.

Stores don't sell used phones. It could be a phone that a customer had for under 3 days and returned, but there are some pretty strict guidlines to get the phone as new again, which is why stores started charging restocking fees.

Did you check the call timers? There might be some clues to whether or not it was used in there.

The best thing to do is to call VZW tech support and they can log in to the BIS and check the PIN... Sometimes the store reps will set up the email account via the phone. If they do, you need to call tech support to have them create the user name and password. Or you will get this error.

Once the PIN is registered on the BIS it creates a "half account" and the only way to get thru that is via tech support as they have direct access to the RIM relay and BIS admin tools...

They can also check the history of the ESN and tell you if it was activated on a different account and for how long...

Hope this helps.. 😁

Actually I do know of an Indirect Agent that does sell used phones as new. As long as it was returned within 30 days and doesn't have any marks/scratches it's okay to be sold as new. I will not list the name of the indirect location but just know that it DOES happen. Corporate stores CANNOT sell cell phones that have been activated on one acct to another acct as new.

Corp stores also have Restocking fees, Certified like new replacements, a tech department to use the spare parts, employee lines, and write-offs.

If an indirect gets a phone back they can either 1) sell it as used and lose money on the sale (if it is a phone like a blackberry)
2) claim it is defective and try shipping it back to the supplier.
3) Or sell a perfectly good phone that was most likely barely used as a new phone. (that is still covered under warranty, still has the same return policy)

I don't know what company you are referring to, and maybe they are doing something shady. But you need to realize that indirects have no way to recoup the losses when a customer decides that "Hey, the rep was right when he said I should...
