Beware of Costco cell phone stand business practices!!!!

fspilot1971

I have been a Verizon wireless customer for over 10 years and a Costco customer over 12 years. Last year I bought
2 cell phones from the "2 man" operation inside Costco wherehouses, because
they told me if anything should happen they would replace my cell phones "no
questions asked". I bought them there because the last 2 cell phones I had gotten from Verizon weren't very dependable Mad ....Now, A year later I am having problems with my cell phones draining batteries, I took it to Costco and they said it was the phones....I
said ok, I want to switch them for another phone, or the same if you have them.....they said ok, but you need to bring everything back with them. (including the cheap leather cases they gave me as a bonus which lasted...

I wish they would let the 3rd party companies do more for them. Like trading out warranty phones.

yes.....and I would also wish 3rd party companies wouldn't promise to do things just to get the sale.....and then leave you out in the cold when it's time to deliver. ☚ī¸

Some do, some don't. You can say the same for corporate stores. Some employees are just bad apples, corporate or indirect. I would be able to do my job better if corporate gave me better access to customer accounts (even being able to read notes on an account would make a world of difference).

Yea exactly. I work for a 3rd party. I would be better at my job much better if I had a bit more access and freedom. Not call in everytime for a phone deal >_>.

But then again most 3rd party dealers do shark more than corporate. At least you guys get paid hourly and not straight commission only.

I work for an indirect, and I get hourly + commission. I wish I didn't need a full social security number to make changes to an account as well. That would save me an earful of "Why do you need that information??" three times a week.

To do any change on the account, such as a price plan change, esn change or add a line, we have to enter their full social into the computer.

It's lame as hell. We also need account passwords + full social if an authorized user is trying to make any changes.

at that point I would let the customer enter it in. I'd find a way to let them enter it in so they won't complain and so they won't mess up your kiosk.

Verizon Wireless was founded in 2000. That was 7 years ago. I'm not sure how you've been a Verizon customer for over ten years. Maybe you have some sort of neat time travel device...?

I love people like this. "Hi I bought my phone a year ago, now it's broken. Give me a brand new one, and make sure it's a different model that just came out. I don't want to pay anything, you should actually credit my account for my troubles!" 🙄 People like this should live a month in other countries and see what it's like to be a consumer. I guarantee you they would never complain again. The problem with people in this country is that they are spoiled beyond belief... Maybe I will go to my Honda dealer tomorrow and tell them that I have had my car for two years and it is broken so I want a new one free of charge of course, and a more expensive model! đŸ¤Ŗ

hold on a second....they promised a to exchange it anytime within the 2 years.....and I never asked for a better/more expensive phone...I just wanted the same phone, just like Verizon is giving me.

Where did you get all this spoiled speech.....and yes, in other countries people also go hungry...but we are lucky to live in this country.... 🙂

If you write to their corporate office or use planetfeedback.com something will be done as Costco has one of the most consumer friendly return policies in America...

Thanks for the info...I will.

Actually, starting 1/1/07 Costco changed their return policies. Fry's Electronics now has a more consumer friendly policy, and you don't need to be a member to buy there. I once returned something there with a missing piece, which I lost 🤭 and all they did was deduct 12% of my purchase price and gave me a refund....I asked the Costco manager to do that for me yesterday, since they didn't just want to replace my phone and he said no....I did send an email to customer service and they actually told me to go to Verizon to by a leather case for $30 to replace the $2 one Costco gave me as a bonus and return it with that. đŸ˜ŗ

It really bothered me since they have records of what I buy and return at Cos...

First off, why would anyone buy a phone from COSTCO? Seriously. If your going to spend more money than actually coming directly to us, why the hell wouldn't you go to a Verizon Wireless store? Just another one of those things that make you go hmmmmmmmmm
...
fspilot1971

Oct 18, 2007, 11:36 PM
One good reason.....because the last two phones I got from the Verizon store were awful and only lasted 8-10 months, I work from home so 90% of the time the phone is sitting at my desk anyways.. and they still didn't last, now that is something that makes me go "hmmmmmmmmm"). So I wanted the warranty Costco offered.

You're ridiculous and I'm sure telling half the story. They offer a phone beyond warranty and you complain because you can't fulfill your responsibility to bring back all the accessories? They have a great return policy on TV's too, but you can't return it without the remote. Oh, and I shop @ Costco and pay attention to those prices, I highly doubt you paid twice as much as @ a Verizon retail store. Bottom line, if you want to act like a little kid, take your ball and go home. I'm sure Costco won't miss your returns.

So your poor little phone just sits there and falls apart? Riiiiigggghhhttt, im sure I could point out blatent customer abuse on it, phones dont just stop working (well, unless they're Motorolas then you have a point).

Anyway Im sure its not the phones fault, and even if it was, the phone comes with a 1 year warranty through the manufacture.

A one year warranty that VZW honors IF the phone was bought from a corp or indirect retailer not 3rd party retailers. If you are beyond your one year warranty they will usually replace it for $50.

I am reading posts on everyone slamming this guy? Did you miss the part where he Paid $ for the extended protection. He paid for something up front to save him the headache later if his phones screwed up. He is not just trying to return them, He just wanted to use what he paid for to get them replaced.

Oct 19, 2007, 2:37 PM
It still doesnt add up to me, like he is omitting something.

Heres why....

If he had an "extended warranty" on the phones as he claims, why would they require the cases?

It sounds to me as he wanted to return everything, hence the reason for the cases.

costco's policy has been (in the past, not sure about now) is you can return ANYTHING at ANYTIME and I was under the impression that this applied to the dealer that sells phones in COSCO...so that's my take on his story...

hmmm, but still no phones come with a case, so I dn't se how that would matter even if that was the case? Don't know, maybe we are missing something, But many agents sell their own protection, and some really kick ass(not this one obviously) (far better than asurian) so that is kinda of how i was reading(like he paid $100 extra for a car charger case and protection/insurance)
The premium agent I am with has the best protection in the industry by far imo

Costco offers an "accessory bundle" with the phones they sell. This includes aftermarket car charger, carrying case, and earbud. They also offered a lifetime warranty on the phones. This was at no charge, it's not like this "gentleman" (read: prick) purchased an extended warranty. I also went shopping this week at Costco amd stopped by wireless. I looked at phones and didn't see a single piece of equipment, through Verizon or any of their other carriers, that came anywhere near being over 2x the price of online prices. Truthfully most I checked were cheaper than the carriers online prices as I compared them while I browsed.

I purchased a LCD TV a few years ago and returned it no questions asked. You could do the same, but guess what? They...

The ONLY difference between now and then was that back then we only offered mail in rebates for phone NOTHING was instant. Then again, our prices were ALL under a hundred bucks for phones and all they had to do was send in for the rest. Its funny he forgot to mention WE GAVE HIM HIS ACTIVATION FREE!

Sorry if I offended you in any way.....I should have known there would be Costco employees on here. But in all seriousness Costco fumbled the ball on this one.....judging by your reply, if you do work at Costco, I can now see why they treated me the way they did.....at least no one called me any names.....moral of the story, "Verizon store won't insult you or call you any names" đŸ¤Ŗ

And yes.....I did pay more at the stand than I would have online.

I work for a Kiosk inside of Costco. Talk to a manager at Costco not for the kiosk. Let them know what you were told. Its not the Kiosk themselves who's bad for the company, its just some of the workers but you get that ANYWHERE you go. DO you even realize how much problems we fix for ther companies? Im not just talking about Verizon either!

Don't bash us the rest of us for something someone else did wrong. Also, the lifetime warranty thing was NEVER something offered. People used it asd a point of sale. For the most part those people just used it to get a sale but WE have to deal with the angry customer so think about who you are yelling at. We are NOT authorized to do the switch most the time and if we do and caught WE are held accounta...

Second...I made it clear what Costco I had the problem with. Foster City, Ca.

Third...I talked to the Costco manager and he acted like a snought nosed kid who didn't care. If the Costco manager doesn't care what more can I do?

First off as you can see by my log in name, i work for wireless advocates which sells cell phones inside costco. I wanted to reply to this guys message because frankly, it sounds like he has the mental compacity of a third grader. Where can you buy a product and actually think you can return it without everything that came with it. I might go buy monopoly at walmart, which has a similar return policy, and try to return it with out the money or the board and see if they will take it back. Come on deuche nugget, are you literally that stupid. I'm sorry you broke your case but what fault is that of costcos or wireless advocates. Take better care of the things you buy and maybe you won't have this problem. And if you were smart, then you...
