I knew things were bad at AT&TW, but I didn't think they were quite THIS bad: đŸ˜ŗ

From all the comparison in the article, seems like Verizon is kicking the unholy crap out of them.

PS- I'm aware that the article was written earlier this year. But has the picture changed in any major way since then?

I considered Verizon if I left AT&T, I no doubt will, but I spent
good money on the phone(s) I have and ring tones.

The phones of course are GSM so that point's me in the direction of T-Mobile, unless I stay @ ATT/Cingular.

I'm hoping things get better.

A couple of friends of mine have Sprint, and the nuts had their land line shut off for not paying the bill 😛 , I asked in another forum I'll ask here, do nights and weekends apply to cell phones?

They are my best friends and I may have to get Sprint for their version of mobile to mobile.

They will be losing me to Verizon in about a week. Customer service was horrible. A $15 "equipment upgrade" fee mysteriously showed up on my account about six months ago, even though I've had the same phone for two years! I am still waiting for the charge to be removed from my account. Plus, unlike Verizon, my AT&T phone won't work in my home, or in the subway tunnels here.

Things were completely miserable for ATT the last quarter of 2003 and first quarter of 2004.

They lost 205,000 subscribers first quarter of 2004 (astronomical considering Verizon added over a million)

and *just* barely ended up with net subscribers, 15,000 in second quarter where Verizon added a record 1.535 million.

Their churn rate is the highest in the industry currently.

AT&T has been gaining momentum back. They definitely have been working their tail off on network improvements and the Cingular roaming agreements aren't too shabby. It is unfortunate though that they have been forced to "give away" so much just to keep those much needed customers. Hopefully the merger won't scare off too many more people. 😕

Someone over at the AT&TW forum pointed me at an EXCELLENT article that really explains in detail exactly what went wrong at AT&T Wireless... a definite must-read if you're at all interested in the subject, and a primer on how NOT to do it, as it were:

Thanks again to Maelstrom on the ATTW forum.

Yeah, this has been floating around since about April 2004. It's a great article. I printed it out & give it to every customer I know that has ATTWS. I LOVE the employee comments at the end. Classic.
