VX6100 or the CDM9900

Ok, don't get mad at me if this was already a thread. But I went back a few pages and couldn't find it...so here goes.

Has anyone on here used (played with in store, bought, etc.,...) both phones? And if so, what did you think? Which one has better durability?

That's nice to know, but why? I need some concrete reasons so I can weigh my decision carefully. I recently upgraded to the 9900 from my VX10, and haven't found any real problems yet. But I would, however, like to see legitimate reasons as to why the 6100 is better. If it is indeed a better phone (reception wise, durability, loud ringers), I will make the switch while I'm in my 15-day period.

Nobody REALLY knows, because the 6100 hasn't been on the market for more than a day.

That's completely understood. But there is a small few who have had the opportunity to do so, like hopper for intance, and those who work for VZW. And if sponge said the 6100, he should have ample evidence as to why it's better.

I'm not expecting instant answers either, but I hope someonw who has had the chance to use both will provide some input.

My wife has the 9900 and it seems nice so far but I am getting the 6100 because I like LG. I think it is a matter of what brand you like. The clarity of the picture of the 9900 will probably be better looking because of the pixelation of the screen. The other nice thing about the 9900 is that the outside screen is color vs the 6100 is grayscale so if you like to take a picture and make it their caller id, you will prefer the 9900 or if you just like color on the outside-same thing. Hope this helps.

Thanks ddtmm, that does help 🙂 Some find the 9900 to be rather large and bulky, but I like it. The key pad could be better looking, but I'm just knit-picking. I like the front of the phone too. I've read a lot of complaints about the outer LCD, but I haven't had any problems seeing it, day/night. As for the screen, yea, it probably is better than the LG. I guess my main curiosity for the 6100 is the reception. I had only LG phones prior to getting my 9900 and have never had any major reception problems with them. The 9900 gets just a tad better reception than my old VX10 at home (I live near the mountains), so that's a plus. The 6100 doesn't have an extendable antenna...wonder if that may pose a problem. If you don't mind, would you post ...

Ive gotten the opportunity to play with both and I personally like the look of the 6100 but the 9900 as far as speaker quality, screen quality, and camera quality, plus the addition of video puts the phone itself ahead of the 6100. I dont think you could go wrong either way.

Are you serious??? You know, from first glance at the inside of the 6100, it looks exactly like a Samsung. Is it just me...or are both companies making similar replicas of each others' phones? I dunno...maybe that's just me. Or maybe it's because they're both Korean made. Either way, I think they're good phones. But back to the subject, is it really worse than the 6000? It's supposed to be 262k colors right? My dad has the 6000, and it's not bad...but worse for a newer version of the phone?

It just doesnt look as "crisp" I dont know, its almost exactly like comparing a 6000 to a 670 and everyone knows that the 6000 looks a considerable amount better than the 670.

The 670 as in the Samsung a670? I have this phone and the display looks pretty darn good to me. I mean, it's a phone, not a laptop or big screen TV.

You're right, you must not have been paying attention. Perhaps you should read the entire thread before you comment! I simply replied to a post that mentioned the 670. A few extra minutes may save one from having to put his foot in his mouth.

If you guys would of payed a little more attention to my post, you would notice that I was simply trying to give an example of what the displays looked like. Obviously since the VX-6100 screen has not been seen by many, I was trying to use phones that everyone was well aware of. That being said, the original poster was asking what I meant by the display on the 6100 looking worse than that of the 6000.

I work at a VZW store, I only had the chance to "Play" with a 6100 for a couple hours, It seems like a decent phone, but im just not a fan of LG, about the 9900, I dont see what all the hype is about, i had a chance with that phone too, all i really like is the Display quality.

Im not a salesman..Thats why i can be honest =P, I would say give it some time (about a month or 2), i've already seen about 4 8910's.. no 9900's yet..but im sure they willl come/ 😎

Could you give me your opinion of the LG vx6100 vs. the Samsung a670 in terms of build quality amd overall quality?

That's a good question, although I'm not considering the a670...I know it's a very solid phone. How does the 6100 compare in that area? I agree that the 9900 isn't exactly a fashion statement by any means, but it does do it's job well as a phone...the only problem I'm having is that I need to charge it every night (which can be done)...but what if I forget to bring a charger with me on an overnight trip or something? So this is a major reason for why I'm still considering the 6100. Thanks ahead for any additional input.

Eh? The battery life on the 9900 is crappy?

If it is, do tell, because I have a friend joining Verizon soon and I want to be able to steer her towards the right phone.

Well I wouldn't call the battery life crappy, cos it isn't. BUT, it doesn't even come close to the standby time the specs claimed. I didn't expect that to be true anyway, but I've noticed that at the end of my day the battery signal is down to one red bar (red=low) and so I've had to charge it every nite. I haven't had any problem keeping it alive throughout the day though, it seems to keep up pretty well with regular phone usage (by that I mean short calls at the most one call could be 45mins to an hour, playing with the camera, and maybe listening to the ringtones on GIN). I got this phone knowing that the battery wouldn't last for more than a few days without charging because (well, just look at its features), but I also didn't go into pu...

Hmm... what if you went with the extended battery on the 9900?

I know its a fairly big phone already (for a clamshell anyway), and that an extended would make it bigger, but some ppl don't like tiny phones.

Nah, I'll just stick with the original battery for now. I have the car charger, so that's sufficient should my phone die on the road or something...lol...which is hardly likely since Hawaii is only so big 🙂 We can only go so far before running into an ocean line. I personally don't think it will pose much of problem for me since I only use my phone to make and recieve calls. I don't use the internet and only browse through Get It Now every once in a while when I want a new ringtone or game. But I'm sure the extended battery will do a mountain of good for this phone if your friend is a heavy phone user. The battery life on this phone isn't that bad actually, considering all the features it has. Just don't expect it to last a LONG time witho...

the a670 beats any lg hands down. it is, as far as ive seen, the most solidly built phone verizon carries. its feels good, the hinge doesnt flex like the others, the finish is beautiful, the screen is very nice...and just as personal preference, i think its perfect size. only thing i dont like about it is that the antenna doesnt screw off. so if it breaks, not so easy to replace.

the 9900 is a great phone as well. it has very good signal reception, great screen. it feels a little cheap, but good internal components.

Thanks for all the replies. I wasn't able to read most of them until just now, but it has helped. Having read as many posts as I can about both phones (the CDM9900 and the VX6100) I see no reason significant enough to make me want to switch over to the 6100. The only main difference I see in comments has been over the size, feel, and flip action in favor to the 6100...which is obvious.

As someone earlier posted, just because one phone may have 3 bars of signal strength doesn't mean that it will have better call quality compared to one that only has 1 bar. And I've found this to be true with the 9900. I was a little leary in the beginning upon first glance at the signal bars, but I noticed that the sound and call quality is comparable to ...

Flash, color outside screen, the LG name, battery life, price, the voice-command...

Ah, I can see where you're coming from since my first two phones were both from LG. But I think I'm quite satisfied with my 9900, and am pretty sure I'm going to keep it. I don't know if I'd say they're the hyundai of cellphones just yet, because it seems to be holding up really well. perhaps you should've said their the ford of cell phones 😉

I'm in the same boat. I have one more day to switch out, and I'm thinking of doing it (it's a bummer that I have to pay $50 more). I was using the 9900 this morning and it dropped my call (fourth time that had happened, and my "Hyundai" of a Kyocera I think maybe dropped my calls that many times in a few months, not two weeks).

Things I like about the 9900: Keypad is excellent. I've never hit a button accitdentally. Contacts list interface, which is one of the best I've seen. Screen (inside. The outside screen is pretty useless, even when doing camera work)
Things I don't like: No ring and vibrate at the same time. Feels a little cheap (compared to my wife's LG 3200. That thing feels like a tank.) Lots of options, but none that are ...

Yesterday was my last day of the 15 day trial on the Vox 9900, so I went to a Verizon store and checked out an LG 6100. The menu on the LG seemed easier and quicker for me to navigate. The scheduler on the 9900 is cumbersome to get around. The 6100 scheduler takes less keys to make a new entry, and the 6100 has a notepad.

However, this wasn't enough for me to return the 9900. I like having an extendable antenna. Reception has been great. All and all, I liked the 9900 more, and decided to keep it and deal with its menus. Perhaps someone will figure out how to adjust the menus via the secret menus.
