It's a cut-down version of the 434.

And we've got it in our store (dummy, live demo, and stock), but can't sell it yet. It should be ready to sell very soon. However, I reiterate BowWowWow's comments and add: it's a Kyocera. ARG.

Are kyocera's really that bad in general? We're thinking of getting my little (13 year old) brother this phone. He only needs it to make phone calls...emergency, pick up, drop off type calls...so he won't be needing anything fancy. I do want him to have good reception though, so if this is a problem, any pointers on other low-priced yet quality phones?

Kyo's are bad at all; based on your brothers needs the new kyo would fit his and your needs well. You have 15 days from the day the phone is activated to try the phone out, if you don't like it--return it. I would almost recommend the Nokia, but there is a price difference and you definately get more than what you pay for w/ both of these phones.

Did you mean to say that Kyo's aren't bad at all? I was just on the VZW site and the price for the nokia 3589i just went down to 19.99, would you recommend this? I think we may go with this one because our VZW store is out of kyo414s and don't have the 404s out yet.

I'd use the Nokia if it was me. We had a ton of 414s returned due to RF issues & general crappiness, but only 1 Nokia 3589i, and that was due to customer defect, not phone problems. I really like it. I'm not at all happy that they're not going to make the phone much longer. The 6015i is the same price, but has fewer features.

Yes, I meant not bad. If were to have missing word(s) in my posts than "not" shouldn't be one them words to leave out. I would go w/ the Nokia-I think the Kyo's are feminine and the Nokia's masculine.

The way I heard it, the KX-404 is a stripped (no GIN, MW) version of the Rave.

The KX-1 is the VZW version of the Soho, and the Koi is going to be called the KX-2. This is per the Kyocera vendor at the vendor fair today, so we will see if she knows her stuff!
