Can anyone tell me why the 3589i has a sim card slot?

Is there any reason besides data storage? is it ready to be used world wide with pre pay cards from other countries?

its probably a phone that wont work on verizon since it is either gsm or tdma, not cdma service.

The phone is probably the same physical phone as GSM version with slightly different model number. The phone probably will not work with other non-cdma carriers but the card will function as phone directory storage. I.E. I have a sim card reader for my pc so I'd probably be able to sync my old t-mobile phone book with my verizon nokia.

The SIM card slot on the 3589i is a non-functioning slot. It caqn not be used for anything. It even says so in the manual.
