Does anyone else feel that Verizon doesn't have many phone options?

So... here's the deal... I am starting to wonder if I want to stick with Verizon. They have wonderful service, especially for traveling, but their phone selection just seems to suck.

Right now, I have an LG Env Touch. Why? you might ask? Well.... got this phone nearly two years ago, mostly for texting. I do about 6,000 texts per month, and about 1000 minutes total. I casually surf the web, and occasionally check my facebook on my phone. I have the 75 MB for 10 dollars plan. I never come close to going over...

So you might ask why I have this old ENV Touch? Well... I can't seem to find anything I like for Verizon.

I had the latest blackberry curve up until a couple months ago, when I switched to the Droid Devour. I really really lik...

Thanks! Sorry for the rambling! I need help with my new phone!!

2) LG Cosmos Touch
3) G'zOne Brigade

If you don't like one of those, sorry- but they have three feature phones advertised that meet the specs you gave.

I think that's one too many. Do you think they should stock 10 phones that you will like?

If you want a smartphone- go back to your Curve.

You are not suffering from a lack of options, you're suffering from "it has to be perfect" syndrome. If you can't find it on Verizon, go s...

Well put, There is a ton of variety in cell phone choices. Sprint has more phone options due to the variety in their network (Nextel phones still exist) but if this is the only reason you are thinking of moving to someone else there isn't going to be a perfect phone+carrier combination. It's always a give and take.

Yep, I can testify to that. I switched over to Vzn for Android, cause ATTs Android selection sucked a year ago, and still sucks. But network wise Verizon's network drops from 3G to 1x way too often, and is dissapointing

That is STRAIGHT *BLEEPING* GARBAGE!!!

I worked for them for seven *BLEEPING* years and I never bought the hype. Hell, I kept my Alltel phone for the first three years, because I knew Verizon coverage was crap in my town. Every Verizon employee is not a "fan boy. Every wireless employee is not a fan boy. There are a few who are and I heckle them when their overt crusader mentality is on display. But YOU have continually displayed this anti-wireless employee mess. I think this is the final straw. I am going to ignore posts from you going forward because clearly you are here to start *Bleep*.

That's a statement I take issue with.

Do you ever wonder why it is that I don't answer every one of your emails asking for help? I don't mean any disrespect to you, it's simply because I don't give a crap. If I were a true Verizon employee fanboy, as you've lumped most of us into, I would be eager to answer every question that gave me an opportunity to praise the all mighty Verizon God. I would give you answers such as, "if you're having problems, it's likely a user error," or, "no, Verizon doesn't have that problem." Instead, you get "*bleep* happens," and "I don't know, I'll have to check." A fanboy would never admit to not knowing something, they would simply make up an answer for you.

I enjoy working for Verizon, but if I left...

you've managed to insult two of the more respected posters in the Verizon forum by calling them fanbois when they obviously not.

To be perfectly honest with you, i don't even think you know what you're talking about. I have a feeling that you're just parroting an attitude that you've picked up from other places like Howard Forums or the like without thinking about what you're saying or making up your own mind about things.

Let me ask you another question. If wireless employees are so horrible and biased, why do you frequent websites where you're going to run into a lot of them?

I strongly disagree with you Jayshmay. Verizon employees are by far the friendliest, most helpful employees I have encountered in the numerous years I have had cellular service. I have never once encountered an arrogant Verizon employee in the stores, or on call. Every time, I have had a pleasant experience.

I am thankful that there are people willing to work in industry who are STILL willing to be good to nice customers like me, even though 90% of customers are horrible horrible horrible people to deal with.

Hmmm. Your list is intriguing... I think the LG Cosmos touch is very overpriced. It looks like a cheap hunk of plastic. The LG Octane is worth looking into... The Casino G'Zone... if I were an avid sailor I would buy this one, but otherwise it is just purely ugly.

Also, I feel like other providers have way more selection to choose from. I feel like with a larger selection... I would be closer to getting the perfect phone.

I agree with the OP. I think Verizon's selection sucks. Especially because I don't like Motorola's phones and when I was looking most of the phones seemed to be Motorola models. I didnt want a blackberry because of past experience with their OS and browser. That didn't leave many options.

Lets see, just off the top of my head:

iPhone
Fascinate
Continuum
Incred 2
Thunderbolt
Ally
Vortex
Pre 2
Commando
(and the Charge as soon as it launches)

Cosmos
Cosmos Touch
Octane
Gusto
Intensity 2
Convoy
Ravine
Brigade
Haven
Crux
Accolade

That seems like a large selection of non Moto, non BB phones.

Ally
Vortex
Cosmos
Cosmos Touch
Gusto
Crux
Accolade

Also, I would not be caught dead with a pantech phone in my hand! I would go back to my LG 3200 before any pantech ever!!!

So in reality... there really are very few phones to choose from that are not a piece of garbage and would last two years...

I concur. I do not know who you are, but you really gained points with that one. Old school! I LOVED the VX-3200/VX3400! $149.99/$179.99 full retail! When a customer destroyed their phone and did not have insurance I could always talk them into one of those and have them thanking me when it was all said and done. Yeah, no *Bleeping* way I would be caught with Pantech garbage or Pantech disguised as Nokia garbage.

"So in reality... there really are very few phones to choose from that are not a piece of garbage and would last two years..."

I have one of the Pankias on an active line (the 6215i). It wasn't so bad - it also wasn't as good as the other models sold at the time, either. But it's served me for almost four years now, and I have no need to upgrade it.

I have two LG 4400s with cradle chargers ready to use whenever I need basic but good phones. I also have an LG 3100 somewhere, maybe a 3300 as well. It's been a while.

Who reviewed them? As far as low end phones go, I think both the Ally and Vortex are good phones. The Ally has, debatably, the best physical keyboard on a smartphone. The Vortex is responsive and inexpensive with a mobile hotspot. As far as feature phones, I think that the Cosmos Touch is a decent phone, even thou I haven't had a lot of hands on with it. Personally, I think LG makes quality phones albeit, with less features than other phones in the same catagory.

I disagree here. I have too many customers that have purchased the phone and are really glad. They enjoy the 4G speeds of the device. The phone like any is not for everyone. For the author of this post, I would not recommend this phone to him. It cost more than he wants to spend, unsure if he would like a virtual keypad and battery life is not going to last him 12 hours.

For years I griped about Verizon's phone selection here. Until they got the Droid. I still wish they would carry some Sony or Nokia high end phones though.

I can't seem to fall in love with the Thunderbolt, so I am still waiting till the end of summer to make up my mind on an upgrade. My Droid is the first phone I will have kept the entire two years since....well forever. If nothing comes better, I will choose between the Thunderbold and maybe the iPphone. I am not a huge iPhone fan, but I bought the iPad 2 and think it may play better with the iphone than an Android. I like the Android phones better though.

I don't like the feel of it when I hold it because it does not feel very solid and the top glass feels very thin. Since I like my Droid and don't know the HTC brand very well, I was hoping for a Motorola. This is why I was wishing for a high end Sony or Nokia, which are both well known brands. I am also worried about the battery life, since I use the web feature a lot with my phone.

I have read many reviews and I could probably live with the battery issue by getting a larger battery and turning on/off features the way I do with my Droid. But, since this is the first LTE phone from Verizon, I am hoping they will get a little better as manufacturers learn about the battery issue.

HTC has done well with the android handsets they've made. The Incredible, Incredible2 and Thunderbolt are all very well executed handsets with favorable reviews in the tech world.

Actually, if you don't mind not having LTE give the Incredible2 a look over. Its a little bit smaller and fits in the hand extrememly well. Also, the Sense UI is pretty decent and imo the best ui for android except for vanilla.

No you don't. Or at least you wouldn't if you knew anything about the Nokia phones Verizon once sold. If I understand correctly, Nokia refused to use the Qualcomm chip and went on their own so the few phones they did build were garbage. Then they sold Pantech phones branded as Nokia, which was worse. Can't blame Verizon on this one. Nokia's execution of CDMA was horrible. Maybe they will get on the LTE bandwagon with Verizon...

I've had two Nokias in the last four years, one of which was a Pankia (Pantec Nokia). Both worked very well. The only thing that was lacking was "wow factor" and as rich an OS offering as some of the other brands (even though the Verizon UI is standard, each brand has their own built-in data and applications).

I still use the Pankia (Nokia) 6215i on a line for one of my kids - it's lasted four years now.

A while back, the company provided me with the Intrigue, which was a decent flip phone actually made by Nokia only two years ago. I still have it, though I no longer use it. It was good on size, call quality, features, and weight. I had no complaints about it, aside from the frustration of adding new words to the internal diction...

To get back on topic, I tend to agree with 'addicted'. Vz has a very good line-up of samrtphones imo; feature phones, not so much. Almost everything they have is frankly crappy and it's a poor selection to begin with and believe me I've looked. I have the DINC just now and love it; I think HTC is at the top of their game now, never been a Moto fan but that's just me, Sense is a beautiful experience but for feature phones your better off following Azeron's advice and jumping ship. Hell, I've seen better phones on pay as you go. Just my opinion.
