To those who work in stores. . .

Is there still a customer base that prefers smartphones with real, physical, slideout keyboards.

I'm asking cause there are people who seem to think real keyboard smartphones are on the decline. Is there any truth to this?

There's still a market for real keyboard smartphones, right?

The Droid Charge is going to be Vzn's !!2nd!! LTE smartphone that is all touch. Whatever happened to choice?

Sorry, Jay, but as technology changes, the less mechanical parts the better. Now people what a large screen and touch technology. Even computers are going away from physical keyboards. Touchscreen monitors are on the rise.

Touchscreen monitors may be on the rise, but they still need keyboards for text input.

The keyboards appear on screen just like on a touchscreen phone...

I'm aware. But they lack up/down/left/right arrows.

Plus when the on screen keyboard is up there is less screen real estate to read what I'm typing, as I'm typing it.

The keyboard should have it's place, and the screen should have it's place.

It's hard for a small town New England guy like myself living in "Sin City" ๐Ÿ˜•

Though there is a girl I'm working on. Who I am nearly positive she doesn't smoke cause we got off the bus together and she didn't light up. And yeah, I got her #. She conveniently lives 1 street over from me, and works @ the Mcdonalds @ the Stratosphere. And thus far, she seems to be very, very special.

We've been having a bit of a hard time making plans. And she said to me, don't worry Jason I definetly want to go out with you. That was nice.

She's been @ the same job for 3yrs, so she's not lazy.

There is very little demand for phones with physical keyboards. Period. We know YOU want one with a keyboard. You asked our opinion I am guessing because you know we see the sales.

Asked and answered.

Yes, there is a customer base that still prefers they physical keyboard. Thats why they make (currently) the droid2 and the droid pro and almost all blackberries. But most people don't want that, they want the big touchscreen phones so the manufacturers are following suit and producing what the public is demanding.

I'm afraid that doesn't make sense. If this is truth why do so many people have iPhones? Why do i sell more fascinates, incredibles and X's than Droid2s/pros?

i am saying the general customer wants keyboard phones.

i mentioned the iphone because that is an exception to the rule. the window phones (cept for the quantum) are not doing well. a lot of other phones are not doing well that isnt touch screen. of course you will get customers getting touch screens with the keyboard enbedded but a lot of people are afraid of that ๐Ÿ™‚

Hmm.... That thermonuclear marshmallow shooter may be a great idea.... Although I do see it as pretty dangerous. No one likes taking a flaming hot marshmallow to the face.

I want one too as long as it is embedded in my cell phone and shoots the mini marshmallows like I put in my hot chocolate! I suppose then I would need a physical keyboard which has the space bar programmed as the trigger to avoid misfires if I was using the touchscreen.

of course the top rated phones that are being sold; majority of them are smartphones that have no keyboard. suprisingly the Torch, which i have, is up there too.

a lot of people get those quick messg phones with keyboards.

many people are afraid that those types of phoens that have the enbeddded keyboard will cause issues sooner than later. i dont know if i agree with that, but at the same time it could be true.

There is still a steady stream of people who want a physical keyboard. The LG Ally is one of VZW's better selling smartphones, due partly because of price, partly because of the great keyboard. The Droid 2 had a garbage keyboard, as did the Droid 1. (No travel, no space between keys, etc).

I think it's about an even split as to what the customer WANTS, but it seems big red sells more all touch screens because there is only one decent keyboard droid, and the rest of the phone is terrible. The Droid Pro isn't a slide out which many people don't like, and again... the Droid 2 keyboard is next to worthless.

I'm one of that steady stream...had an android phone and although I liked it, willingly went back to blackberry and a usable keyboard. If all phones go to touchscreen, I am going to be one unhappy customer.

I am also a keyboard person.

But RIM doesn't seem to be doing anything along the lines of moving -forward-. Still making the same old, same old 2.8inch smartphones, while everyone else is making 3.5inch plus smartphones.

2.8inch screens are just,...well 3yrs old.

Yeah, I've had the Ally for almost 3 full months, and I have no major complaints.
It just works. Probably the closest thing I have to a major complaint would be way, way too little internal memory. But I qualify for an equipment upgrade in November. And with newer smartphones it doesn't seem like internal memory is much of an issue anymore.

Somehow I don't think Motorola is learning from customer complaints.

I'm really hoping LG makes an update to the Ally with LTE + dual-core processors, and a NOVA display, shoot the Ally wss a good enough selling of a smartphone, they oughta come out with a folloow-up.

Individual preferences are not considered when making phones. Customer's are looking for virtual keypads and smaller phones. The industry changes every day. Manufactures and Verizon are going to create what the masses want.
