My trackball has went out and my phone has become temporarily unusable at times. Is there a different phone they will allow me to exchange it with without having to start my contract over? I have completed nine months with my new 20 month plan they suckered me into.

Unfortunately probably not. Policy is to replace it with the same model. Call and get it replaced. If you continue having issues continue getting it replaced. Eventually if you get a rep having a good day that feels like bending policy they may offer you something else. It's not likely though because official policy is that they will only replace with the same device.

I hate that policy. I went through 4 LG dares with that policy. I will keep calling until I get a happy representative I guess. There is no way to avoid the trackball issue. I have to charge my phone. Therefore I have to screw up my trackball sensor. I hate Verizon for selling that phone and canceling it after 7 months. They knew it was screw up.

That's a pretty normal life cycle honestly. Maybe a couple months short but 9-12 months is average. The Incredible came out last May and is already end of life, the Droid X in August is getting close to end of life.

That's true. I did my Technology current event on the lifespan of Android phones last week. I feel as thought this phone should not have passed the tests. Someone should have been able to detect that the charger port would effect the trackball over time.

I'm just curious why you use the trackball or why it's required? I know it's something that came on the phone so it should work, but how does it affect the phone functionality by not working? It's one of the few Android devices that has the trackball. My mom has had the phone since it came out and hasn't had any trackball issues. I had in Incredible with the trackpad but never once used the pad.

I dont use it. It controls my phone on its own. Its the charger port that messes up the trackball sensor.

I think the poster is referring to the 24 month contract. Not sure on the "suckered" part, since the vast majority of wireless customers all sign the same contract term, regardless of company. We're almost all suckers, technically.

They suckered me in because I was leaving .. Its not 24 months. I got the phone in may and my contract ends january 2012. I had some grand father clause that let me upgrade early

Please check that contract you were suckered into signing. It sounds like you signed a two year contract and are eligible to upgrade after fulfilling twenty months of it. Standard policy.

When you had your Dare your replacements were under a different program. If you had three within a 90-day period, they would have switched you to a different model. They did away with that program, quite frankly, because of cost.
You have to remember that if Verizon didn't intercede in the warranty system, you would be sending your Eris to HTC for 2-3 weeks and left without a phone. Verizon, in this case, is the better of two scenarios. And since Verizon pays for the interceding warranty system, they get to chose how it works. Otherwise, contact HTC and have them warranty your phone.
Incidentally, we sold a ton of these things and rarely see them with issues beyond processing speed, which is easily fixed by the consumer. I feel b...

My replacement should have came today. My dad wants to switch to t mobile so it doesn't matter anymore. I dont use the trackball. It never moved fast enough for me. It just controls my phone on its own . Google it. Its a common problem. Unfortunately htc ignores that publicly but look at how fast it was taken of the market ! They knew there would be issues

I can Google anything and find a lot of people complaining about any issue under the sun. That's because when people have something to complain about, they take every opportunity to do so. People who are perfectly happy aren't very likely to go and blab about it all over the Internet.
Look, I WORK in one of the busiest full-service corporate stores in my area. Half of what my stores does is troubleshooting and warranty exchange. I'm telling you, I haven't seen some mass issue with it. We see them come in, sure, but our warranty units mostly sit and collect dust. Most issues with the phone are fixed with a factory reset, and of the ones that are not, we exchange it when we can. We had one come in today - factory reset fixed it.
