From Verizon to Cingular back to Verizon
So I went down to my local Cingular store(still keeping my Verizon service) and I bought theto Moto V551 camera phone. I kept hearing how "great" GSM was supposed to be. Well let me tell you it's NOT!
1) During a phone conversation, all of a sudden all I would hear is garble for a few words. I did not like that!
2) Then I had to punch in my local area code to make a phone call, because I was told I was using a ATT wireless tower.
3) I was always having to adjust the volume in the ear piece when I was having a phone conversation.
4) On the Moto V551, it was almost impossible to view the...

Glad you found a carrier you like. 🙂

Plus...let's just be honest...GSM sound quality just sucks..my roommate just got a T-mobile phone after having had Sprint...and the difference between talking to him now as compared to his CDMA service is amazing...How can anyone stand it?
Hm... from what I've read, I don't think there's anything in GSM that would inherently and automatically make it sound terrible. Are you sure its not other factors?

It realy does make a diff from phone to phone. You'd think by now phone manufacture's would have to folow a guideline, that the phone they make has to be able to pull in a certain amout of signal. I had the MPX200...HORRIBLE reception...new Nokis 3100..... AWESOME reception. Night and day difference.
I second your opinion. We too have 3120's and a 6010 and flawless service here in Citrus Heights (near Sacramento; Buckock already knows this). Haven't come across a place it doesn't work yet, despite the horror stories I used to hear. My only regret leaving Verizon was their fantastic customer service, and I will agree that when I had Verizon for years I heard way too many complaints about Cingu...

Europe uses GSM because its government regulatory bodies TOLD it to. They wanted all of Europe on one standard technology.
Well that explains why 10% of gsm countries have it. So why did the rest of the world adopt gsm?
Europe is small potatoes when looking at the entire gsm community. In reality, there are about the same amount of CDMA subscribers as there are GSM users in Europe alone.

10%? Might wanna recheck your figures there Phoenix... oops, I mean Al. There seems to be around 500 million GSM subscribers in Europe these days, or at least one-third of the world total:
The total number of GSM subscribers exceeded 500 mill ...

According to the gsmworld website, Europe has 486 million as of Q4. Asia has 448 million. More than the 10% that I was saying
Glad you agree. Didn't want to correct you, but you were off by so much (Europe is actually 35-40% of world GSM users) that it beared stating.
but the point is still valid. Even if you take away all of Europes subscribers, gsm still has 5 times as many subscribers.
Mm... no. Don't hate me, but according to gsmworld, there's currently 1.3 billion GSM subscribers. Take away Europe's 500 million, that leaves 800 million. Currently there's about 250 million CDMA subscribers worldwide, so its more like 3 times as many, not 5.
Again, t...

Motorola has been hit and miss lately with many RF problems on their handset's antennas. Also, you are comparing a higher end LG CDMA phone to a midrange moto. That particular LG is one of the best rated phones that verizon has ever released and you replaced it with a problematic motorola.
The LG also has a 262,000 color screen and the moto has a 65,000 color screen. Huge difference in the light. Sorry you had voice quality problems, but I would also blame that on the phone's RF problem. Get a nokia or a sony and you'll hear a huge difference in voice quality. GSM typically has better voice quality than cdma. Especially in good coverage areas....

The Sony Ericsson z500a or the Samsung p207 would have been a better choice.
not having a phone at all would have been a better choice than cingular. 🤣 ..sorry, had to.

You'd have to spend more money at verizon to get a phone that compares to those cingular phones. 😕
